i am sure there is some sort of marketing strategy name for it, but it is common. yamaha does it also.. its the same equip, they just give it a different name and different price.

its kinda like the 2805 will be sold at your higher end type stores, where the buyer wants to think he is getting, "the best money can buy", and isnt as concerned with the higher price.. and the 985 is the one sold at the chain stores, where people might be lookin for a bargain. this isnt the best explanation for this, but its the best that i could do..

like i said, i had the same experience when looking for a yamaha receiver. they have the RX-V1000 and 1300 and 1400, etc.. but that also have the HTR-5500 series and the 5600 series.. they are the same receivers, same functions.. different price?? just about the same as the denon lines..
