I'll never forget the first time I saw Foster Brooks. Johnny Carson had him on the Tonight show and introduced him as a remarkable High School principal who had won some sort of an award. I was aghast at this obviously drunk man being on national television. Foster played it beautifully. He was horrifically embarrassing at first, and slowly got sillier and sillier, then absolutely hysterically funny. Finally, Johnny revealed the joke and introduced him properly. It was a memorable experience. For the uninitiated, Foster Brooks played the most convincing, hilariously funny drunk I've ever seen.
