No offense intended, but did H/K bump up their prices/feature set? When I was looking at receivers (around a year or two ago), I didn't even consider an H/K below a 325, and that one was shaky. I got my 525 for $550 as a refurb through onecall. It just seems like there's an awful lot of 23x and 13x series owners around now. I always considered the 1400 to be roughly equivalent to a 325, maybe a 525, although I've never even seen one of the beasties! Could be wrong, though...
