Wasn't sure where to post this but....
Back in December, I brought home a Infocus Front projector to "demonstrate" to the woman what it was and what it could do. Well, needless to say she was convinced that she wanted one ASAP. To make things even better, we had an entire basement that used to be an apartment, but was never renovated for our own purposes since we stopped renting. I was never in a rush to do the area, but once she wanted the front projector....well, a media room was the only way to go! All of a sudden I was in the mood to start renovating. funny how that works isn't it. I think she knew this all along, and of course I played it for all it's worth
Well, I was introduced to the avsforum.com and started trying to decide on a projector/screen. I must say, even with some projector experience, picking one for home was rather a lenghty process, mostly because i was forced to buy blind since nobody in town really carries anything good. Long story short,in Jan I picked up a Infocus 4805, and a 110" m2500. Many thanks for the help from avsforum members there.
Now come on, surely I can't get a new screen and use my old stereo! Dolby pro logic at that. So, the search for speakers/amp began, and with a paradigm dealer here, I was just about to pull the trigger on a set of monitor 90p or 11's. Thankfully, there was a guy in the store that actually worked there, and said, "Have you ever heard of Axiom?"
Lets cut to the end: I found this forum, found audioholics as well, and between these two forums the most, my first purchase was the M80's. There's just no way i could have bought the 60's after seeing these babies of which I have nick named "The Twins". Sure, the 60's would have done just fine, but come on......look at the 80's....seriously, just look at em! WOW. the risk free 30 day trial, and free shipping is pretty much the only reason why I took the leap of faith. Why not? I had nothing to lose. And I couldn't be happier.
Once I knew Axiom had the sound I was looking for, it made any other speaker decision a breath of fresh air. In the midst of which receiver, which projector, which this or that decision to make, the only purchase that i can say with 100% certainty that I am totally pleased with is my Axiom's ( and HSU sub). Just recently, I basically ordered the VP-150/qs8's all from the FO with ZERO worry about product faults, or my expectations not being met. I think in this world we are all used to paying more for what we actually get all too often. It is refreshing to make a purchase where I, the customer, felt like I had gotten every pennies worth.
I wish I could say the same for the rest of my purchases, especially the receiver. Every receiver seems to have good/bad points, and it's almost a compromise to choose one. I really wish Axiom sold amps with the 30day trial/free shipping as well. If so my entire purchasing process would have taken place here, and I'm sure it would have went much smoother with Axiom's superb customers service, and forum family. Unfortunately, even if they do release an amp now, I'm broke
That leads me to say thanks to Alan, Amie, Noreen, Brent ( I'm sure I'm forgetting names somewhere) and all of the forum members that have helped me piece together what i think is a superb audio system. In the words of one of Audioholic's reviewers....WOW.
Now,if the carpet installers were only as swift as Axiom, I'd have an almost completed room that i could actually put this stuff into....arg. Yes, it was supposed to get installed today, and sure enough, carpet is not in town yet.
Anyways,thanks to all.

No, I was just thinking about his recent experience with the local couriers.

I'm thinking the QS8 would work better on the wall than the floor, though.

I don't know, maybe he has come up with a new concept by having speakers on the floor and ceiling firing towards each other instead of the walls...

QS8s work pretty much anywhere... and leaving them on the floor is DEFINITELY the easiest way to mount them. Ask me how I know

Yeah, getting the wire to it without running it across the floor was the hardest problem. The poor ceiling downstairs will never be the same.

"Whoah! Wire has legs??"

VERY nice setup!!!!!!!!!!!
But, I am really wondering one thing!!! Why would a salesman in a store selling Paradigm speakers ask you if you have heard of Axiom?????????
That is mighty strange!!!

I don't think it was a salesman, but another shopper. I have done the same thing while auditioning speakers and listening to the BS from salespeople. I put in my 2 cents.

He did say the person was an employee. Not sure if he was a salesman though.BTW I too have put my 2 cents in here and there when people were about to fall for some salesmans bs.

he did work there. That is what was so odd. iwas telling of the sound I was looking for and that the paradigm's were good, but not really what I was looking for. And he said, go look at Axiom because they were the best speaker he's heard.
I guess he doesn't work off of commision

I finally got the stuff slapped into the new room last night and sat down and watched our first movie...or two.
LOTR3, and Sin city. Man, I couldn't care what I was watching, I just sat there in awe of the sound. I'll get some pics done up of the new room once we get all the trims done and stuff.

newf,
Where do you live -- anywhere in Texas?? I looked at the Paradigm's today and was impressed but not too excited about the price. I love that you liked the Paradigm's but love the Axioms more.
I'm in the planning process of building a HT as we speak. Goal it to have it done by the end of the year. I plan to so everything myself -- so that's why I need all that time

Don't worry folks from texas will chime in shortly to answer all your questions. Cheers,

yeah, the paradigm's were a bit muddy, lacking detail. I never heard the studio's though. The receiver/amp will make a big difference as well.
All said and done, I have owned paradigm's in past years, and to be honest I have never been blown away by this "paradigm quality" some talk of. The Axiom impressed me more just taking them out of the box even before I heard them
I'm officially a Axiom'ite now. Just need more money to get some more.
And yeah, check a map or globe of Canada. Newfoundland is the furthest Eastern and largest island.
