Coach2369,

I've seen the Optoma H31 and it's a good little projector, but DVD is 480P and no amount of upconverting is going to turn it into anything approaching HD. Smokey is correct. In my view, if you are watching DVD resolution, and you may be sensitive (like me) to Screen Door Effect, you'd want to sit no closer than three times the diagonal screen width.
I recommend a minimum viewing distance of two times diagonal screen width for 1280 x 720, true HD. Lesser resolutions, DVD, look OK at that distance but you know it ain't HD.

sirquack do you need a tissue. also if you read your post the one where you stated i saw everything probaly. which is rather immature which started it. last post coachie made to inquire about a projector you also stated how much better lcd was then dlp. It's not true. no matter what you belive. so if you wanna help people do that instead of trying to say he should have got lcd like you. don't start the fire if you can't stand the heat. Also keep your posts about topic. not what i'm smokin or if i've saw every projector made. getting personal like you do is very immature. Makes me believe you need to do some growing up.

smokey, seems to me you need to take your own advice. How about dealing with this sort of thing via private messages, next time, hmmm?

I am currently sitting back as far as I can with the way the room is setup. I am just going to give myself some time to get used to a digital display. After watching movies all last night, I found myself noticing it a little less each movie I watched. I might try to defocus the image a tad and see if I like the way the picture looks. If I don't like it, I can always put it back the way it was originally was. Chad, my ISF calibrator, has offered to come over and help me with this process. So, I will let you know what happens.

Thanks again!

Ok I lied, I said I would not be back, and watch Peter, these new trolls seem to pop up around here lately, watch what you say or he'll put words in your mouth as well.

Just for everyone's info. I went back and read all of my posts on the threads that Coach started in regards to help with projectors and/or DVD players. Again, I do not see any statements where I bashed DLP technology, in fact, there are many factual statements I made in favor of DLP. I also never said LCD was better than DLP. If someone can show this to be incorrect, without twisting words, I will stand corrected.

Coach has been seeking advice currently for his DVD problems, and in the past when he was seeking advice on a projector. Acting like it is a crime that I even brought up my experiences is like the pot calling the kettle black.

I respect Alan's advice on speakers, but he is not always right on every issue. There are many upconverting DVD players that have hit the market over the last few years. Most of them have had a poor track record. My Panasonic S97S over HDMI to my Z2 is amazing, and does provide a much improved picture from when I was running component at 480p. I'm sure the hundreds of people on AVSforum are wrong also that are providing similar reviews since the S97S hit the market.

Just like speakers it boils down to making your own decision and trying to demo the units. Coach, if you lived near Iowa, I would invite you over so you could make up your own decision.

Also, check with NickBuol on this forum, he runs a Z3 with the S97S, and Carada 2.05 screen, if will give you similar feedback.

I need to go get a tissue.

i hope it clears up. from all accounts i've heard. you bought the best projector for its price. I think the more you watch the less you'll notice it. hopefully. I have the h57 which is fairly similar. so if you need some help just pm me.
