Hi All,
Hope all you audiophiles are reaping the benefits of your axiom systems
My problem is the only axiom in my HT is my VP100. Now I'm an audiophile but money isn't so abundant with me. But I should be about ready for an upgrade soon. The thing is that my reciever is no beauty (sony str-de585) I bought it long before I had any clue about nice clean audio. Anywase, The main channels are two cabinets from the 70's or 80's; they're mitsubishi 3-way. But I was thinking about upgrading to the m60's and putting the mitsubishis' for the rears. (currently two cheap JVC satellites house there)
Sound like a good bet?
I watch a variety of movies mostly action, horror, sci-fi... reasonably loud. I do also listen to metal...
Thanks as always for any words of though!
Dave

I ran with M60 mains, VP100 center and old cheap towers as surrounds for quite a while. I thought it was mighty fine for DVDs (the same mix of movie genres) but music sounded better in 2 channel.
Once I had matched speakers all round music sounded much better in surround modes... but I still prefer listening to stereo music using only the M60s.
I think this is a good plan. Your receiver will be fine for a while as long as you don't drive it into clipping and start frying tweeters

Before I bought some M50s and stuck my M3s in back; I was running some fairly substantial HTIB front speakers as my surrounds, and they worked really well
Yeah; we paid what the site says(unless we got them before the last price increase)
They do have a couple of discount plans for factory seconds and quantity discount, but that's about it.
And Yup, sometimes they pop-up on the used market, but not consistently.

I am just beginning, also. I have a Marantz 7200 A/V receiver just waiting to have speakers hooked up to it.
I was fortunate enough to pick up a VP100 on eBay for $155, but you're right. It is tough trying to find someone willing to part from their Axiom's, unless they are upgrading. I'll take that as a good indication of the Axiom quality!
I'm with you davemire (Dave, I assume?), my next step is a pair of M50's or M60's depending on how long I'm willing to keep saving!

Well, I will have to check but the last time I talked to my axiom dealer, I could get the m60's for $800CND. Let me get back to you guys though. Everything I checked out was significantly more expensive from the site.

Where are you located?
I've only heard of three places that sold Axiom products and of which, only 1 still does. There was a place in Toronto and Windsor that were selling off for lower prices to get rid of inventory.

Might still be a store in Oakville as well.
I imagine it's old stock.

I'm near Lindsay, ON. He still can get it. He has mostly switched over to cerwin-vega for some reason. But he said it would be just under a grand

As far as I know Axiom shifted to an internet-only model at least a year ago. They may be allowing a few local dealers to continue but I didn't think so. We can ask at the picnic...

I agree, I had heard they no longer are selling via dealers about a year ago. I suppose there is still some old stock floating around, but I would feel safer buying direct.

There was a local stereo shop in Ottawa that did sell them BUT here is the real deal, even though they sold them a little bit cheaper- there was no 30 day return policy. So that cancelled out any benefit from buying elsewhere. Axiom's service is the one of the best in the industry. There again reason enough to buy from them.

I originally bought from the place in Oakville, they were cheaper and at that time I had never bought over the net and was still skeptical of Axiom...I'm no longer skeptical as once I got my VP150 home.
I wish I would have bought directly from Axiom and will do that going forward. I'm not even sure if my 150 is A or B, not that it really matters. I've been getting certificates for awhile now and hope to make my purchase at the picnic. Nothing like a nice gift when coming back from a trip!
I wondered if the stores still selling Axiom get them cheaper by purchasing in bulk 5% and getting the factory outlet 10%?? The place in Oakville I went to 3-4 times and they were getting stuff everytime.

I pick up my Epic 80 system 2 weeks ago at the plant. They said they are completely internet based now. One of the main reasons was to have full control of warenty claims. I guess some dealers were screwing customers by charging them labour to replace drivers. Now Axiom just ships the driver/part to you and talks you through the repair over the phone. Better for all (except the dealers)!

Your next step being the M60s is a good one. They will probably be louder than your mits front stage is right now as they have pretty good sensitivity. Keep in mind that there won't be an abundance of bass though. This is true with all speakers at those wattage levels though.
I bought the M60s about a year ago and hooked them up to an Onkyo tx-sr501 (65x5). They sounded great. Much better than my bose 401s. Then I upgraded to a Pioneer Pioneer VSX1014TXK (120x7). Hooked it up 5.1 initially, sounded even better. Then I biamped the M60s with the extra 2 channels. Sounds phenomenal.
I think the point I'm trying to get to is that you'll be really impressed with the M60s right away, and they will continue to amaze you as you upgrade.
