I have m60's and m22ti's. Experimenting with them and curious as HT only, can I get all the slam and full body using m22 pair with sub, rears etc. so I can move 60's to another room for 2 channel. I should note that the sub is not yet in place or I would have tried it myself already.
We have several rooms in our home for sound, so it affords me the ability to be application specific.
The room in question is 14x24 w/8' ceiling. Firing the length of the room. My wife tells me my volume is too loud if that gives you an indication of the listening level of HT enjoyed in our home. The bookshelves are clean as we all know, but do they carry the day with sub, ctr, and so on for my room. Still intend to enjoy music here in this room, but will watch more movies than music with this set up.

I'd hoped this was an easy question, but with lots of views and no responses, maybe not. Does anyone have a thought on the m22 carrying the big sound in my room?

I use the m22 with the vp150 and a Hsu VTF-2 sub. Sounds real good to me. Though I've never heard the M60's to make a fair comparision.

If your a the jazz nut you are you will enjoy the M22 in your room. Both music and HT. The M22 are small compared to a floorstander but hook them up to an amp that can pump out 75W+ they would really shake your walls. I had my M22 hooked up to my Rotel 1065 100X5 and it shakes the wall at the 65 volume level mark. At that volume level my floorstander Monitor Audio Silver S6 and M22 were almost equal in loudness since the M22 was partnered with a good powerful sub. After listening to lots of speakers I prefer the sound of bookshelves rather than floorstander. I find bookshelves have better soundstage, imaging, less colouration and much more precise and dynamics. Yes you don't have the lower frequencies and range as a floorstander but thats what a good sub is for. Me personally for 2 stereo I would go for bookshelves unless the floorstander is really that good. For HT I'd go for floorstanders. People may have different preferences but thats what I would do.

I totally agree.

12 years ago I bought my first "high-end" pair of speakers. I bought a pair of Snell Accoustics Type K/II's. They were/are a wonderful pair of speakers. At the time I bought those bookshelf speakers because I could not afford floorstanding speakers. So, I bought the Snell's and a cheap yamaha subwoofer. I used that set up for over a decade.

A few months ago, I decided it was time to update my HT setup. I listened to a ton of speakers. Floorstanders, bookshelves, sub/sat combos, you name it. In the end I bought the Axiom M22ti bookshelves and paired them with a Hsu VTF-2 subwoofer. I love them! I found that most of the floorstanding speakers I listened to didn't have the detail that a nice bookshelf speaker can give you (especially the M22), and with the added Hsu, my M22/Hsu combo can go lower - and more cleanly than nearly any single pair of floorstanders.

I should point out though, that of the floorstanders that I did listen to, I was not able to hear Axioms. I would love to hear the M60's, as I've heard they are an amazing speaker.

I got my M22's and my Hsu VTF-2 for $845. A pair of M60's costs $800...and from what I've been told, you'd still want to add a sub to go with the M60's for a really full low end. For my money...I'll keep my setup.

I guess I got off track though...with that size room, the M22ti's and a good sub will work fine. I'd love to hear what you think about the M22 vs the M60...what are the sound differences? Is the M60 as detailed as the M22?

I have auditioned the M22s vs the M60s.
Easiest description is that the M22s sound like a smaller version than the M60s with a bit less bass.

Wow...the M60's are that clear? The mids and highs remain as detailed as they do in the M22's?

spiffnme,
Here is a linkto an old post which has other embedded links regarding reviews of the M60s. This includes a link to my original review the day i received my pair.
They are definitely as clear as the M22s (same tweeter) and have a nearly identical midrange, just more of it (larger drivers, larger tower).
The extended bass range was the only real frequency difference that i noticed.
And again, as Ian stated sometime ago, the M80s in comparison have more extended bass than the M60s but are otherwise identical in sound and can play louder.
