hmm, i bought 100' axiom bulk with my qs-8's, and well even though my room is only 12x12, i ended up using like 40feet for each qs-8, am i near or over the limit of 12ga? if not what is the limit to which it affects your speakers?

Here is a wire table you can use to firgure the right gage for a specific run.As it looks 12 ga would be good for quite a looooooooooooong run

I did my wiring a while back and for the front speakers (a run of 50 feet or so) I used a pair of 12ga (I know .. I know).

Apologies since this is off-topic, but is a pair of 12ga equivalent to 10ga or more ?

Nat, I'm not sure what you mean by "a pair of 12 ga." If you mean you used a run to each speaker that had 4 wires, like this

and you twisted two of the wires together for the positive connection, and the other two together for the negative connection, you end up with resistance equivalent to about a single, two lead, 9 gauge wire. This is unnecessary (but I don't think it's harmful), even for a run of 50 feet. As the Wire Table linked to above shows, your standard 12 gauge wire is sufficient for almost any length run in a normal home, even if the speaker has an impedance of 4 ohms.

I use 12 ga on my fronts that are less then eight feet from the amp for one reason:

Not that they are required by any rhyme or reason from an engineering standpoint; but just cause they "look" better
