Lots of speakers from many manufactures...mostly Axiom

Some people have used these http://www.axiomaudio.com/fullmetalbracket.html but I don't think they allow enough room for the top driver to breath, even if you angle them a bit. I'm in the middle of setting up my new HT in my basement, and what I'm going to try is some brackets that are used to hold up shelfs. I found some black metal shelf brackets at menards that seem to be very stong. I had to drill out one of the holes a bit bigger to allow for the threaded bolt that comes with the qs8's to fit through.
This is not exactly what I'm using, but the only thing I could find online that was close. The thickness of the metal on mine is about half of this picture.

I use a Full Metal Bracket for my rear speaker from the ceiling. But I don't have a nearby wall, and my basement ceilings are quite low (6' 10"). I have it tilted downwards at about a 30 degree angle towards the listening area, about 3' behind.

I’m using the Omnimount 20.0 Ceiling mount for my QS8 speakers. These provide 5-6 inches clearance for the top speaker. There is a mounting plate adaptor you can screw to the back of the speaker so the mount will work.
I didn’t like the looks of the mounting plate, however, and wanted to maximize the clear space over the speaker so I modified my speakers by installing a 3/8-16 stainless steel insert in the back of the speaker above the factory M5-0.8 insert. I spent about 4 weeks thinking about this before I did it and measured and re-measured too many times to count. My drill press and some other miscellaneous tools were a necessity for this operation, but the results were very good. I do recommend experimenting with the insert, brad point drill and scrap MDF to ensure a press fit on the insert to prevent any rattles. Removing the top speaker was a requirement.

Hi Rebulx,
The Omnimount Series 10 Ceiling-mount bracket will fit the thread on the rear baffle of the QS8s/QS4s. Don't worry about the extra pound or so of weight. Other Axiomites have used this bracket. It's at racksandstands.com http://www.racksandstands.com/prods/OmniMount/10%2E0-Series/0POM0012.htm

Here Alan, I'll help you with that difficult HTML code, ha ha
http://www.racksandstands.com/prods/OmniMount/10%2E0-Series/0POM0012.htm
In looking at the specification PDF, http://www.omnimount.com/pdf/OmniSupportLit.pdf it appears the 10 series only has 3" of clearance from ceiling to the threaded portion that goes into the back of the speakers, whereas the 20 series has 7-1/2". Since the female threaded port on the Qs8's is a few inches down from the top, I can't see how there would be any clearance for the top driver. The 10.0 series has a 1/4-20 thread, and the 20.0 series has 3/8-16 if I'm understanding correctly.
Does anyone have any pics of the 10 or 20 series ceiling mounts with their Qs8's or 4's?
Randy

It's not ideal, but my QS4s are only 2-3 inches from the ceiling. They seem to work fine.

I know people have used the Omnimount 10.0 in the past because it’s mentioned in past threads, but my new custom finish QS8’s definitely used a different thread for the factory insert. I’m pretty sure it’s an M5-0.8 instead of the 1/4-20 used on the Omnimount 10.0. Perhaps Axiom changed the insert they use for the QS8?

Speaker problem FIXED! I used a 12" galvanized pipe, with a 45 degrees fitting (points right behind me ) It hangs low from the ceiling and looks good (after I wrapped white duck tape around it) I also saved a ton of money, only $8.00 in parts!!!

Montclair,
Thanks for the update on the hardware. I'll check with the factory and see if that has occurred. I just relay previous experiences with Axiom customers. I don't have the Omnimount Series 10 brackets myself. In fact, my QS8s are old enough that they don't have the bolt adaptor on the back--boo-hoo.

Galvanized pipe fittings, why didn't I think of that. That's a good idea, Rebulx.
