Alan,
I apologize for the confusion. You are correct, I was referring to The TV-cable(coaxial). I unplugged it from the cable box, plugged it into the surge protector (annte. in), and then ran another cable from the surge protector(OUT) too the cable box.
Some of my original symptoms were:
Hum from sub only. (even after my fronts were set to large)
Hum was continuous, even with all other devices (cable box, receiver, etc.) turned off.
I played around with all the power cords one by one reversing the polarity with negative results.
When I unplugged the Coaxial cable from the cable box the hum became very loud.
After running the Coaxial cable through the surge protector the hum stopped.
