[RANT]

Is it just me or has the amp section of AVS forums gone to the dogs as of late? Matter of fact, probably several months now. Seems to be full of a bunch of morons lately and hardly any useful information any more. Just a bunch of people that try to brainwash others into thinking that their brand name receiver ( regardless of brand)is DA BOMB . Seems to be more people that just regurgitate what they read somewhere else talking about products like the own them.

Honestly, I find this forum much more honest and informative. Audioholics has also come a long way as well.

Don't get me wrong. I still find other sections of avs useful, and some very nice people as well. Just the Amp/receiver section. Although, outside of the screens, pj's, remote, and HT construction, I don't visit much else.

I was on AVS back when they were just getting their forums going. They went through a lot of growing pains, and started "farming out" moderation of the forums to other people. Now it seems like there is a different moderator for each forum, and they all have their different views on how to run things. I was in on the $3500 or Less Digital Projector forum, and that guy had a set of ground rules, and if you didn't keep on topic and follow the rules, you were kicked out. I thought that it was a little harsh, but understood the reason for it and I enjoyed the interactions there. I KNOW though that other forums on AVS are pretty much a free-for-all, and that tends to make things go downhill pretty fast and you end up with a lot of biased opinions instead of informative facts. We had a couple of those situations here when a former member resorting to name calling and mud slinging whenever anyone didn't agree with his opinion. He was asked to leave after a few days of his bad behavior. I think that is the way to go. Let people stray a little, but rope them back in right away, or tell them to go elsewhere. If they can't accept the rules of a forum that is free for them to use, then they have no ground to stand on to argue with the owners of the forums who have to pay the bill to keep it going.
Besides, this is a "Canadian run" forum. Aren't Canadians supposed to be nice people? Maybe not those French Canadians, but that is another story.

Believe me Newf, it is not just the Amp forum. I used to be a regular on the DIY Screen forum, probably why I'm pushing 1,000 posts over there...In addition to the DIY Screen forum, I have found the Speakers and Projectors under $3500 forums to be really crawling with trolls, you know those people that like to say product A sucks, and product B is great, however, they don't have any facts to back up their statements, only hearsay. That is why I hang here at Axiom more often, lots of cool dudes

I'm not a "forum" kind of guy... besides the one I moderate for one of the bands I work for, I don't really get involved in forums, especially those that deal with subjects that are a matter of taste.

I don't exactly remember whose posts I had read here, probably Sushi, Alan, JohnK and a few others' and thought "wow, open and honest dialog... no l33t Sp3aK... fully formed sentences..." and signed up.

Sometimes things get thick around here and I have to take some time away but I always come back (even when it means coming back to 2000 new messages).

(A little late to these threads - just back!)

This topic is something that I have thought a lot about as I look at other online communities. I really love the way this community is so welcoming. I've been on forums where moderators spend all their time moving queries to the 'proper' categories and chastizing newbies for not understanding the subculture, or insisting they perform a search and digest for days before asking a question or joining in. I find Axiom forum members are much more interested in meeting people, welcoming them in, and helping them out. I get a warm fuzzy all the time here - you all come across as people I would like to meet.

As soon as I actually buy a place and move in, everyone here is invited to my housewarming party in Maryland or Virginia!

I've said it before, I'll say it again... anyone travelling through Winnipeg, Manitoba (or even on a layover) P.M. me and I'll put a pot of joe or a beer on ice for you.

Unless you're Sid, SirQuack or Ken, you'll have to bring your own tunes, though... I guess there's always digital cable music channels.

The problem with Winnipeg is that it's not on the way to anywhere. I suppose if I were to drive from Maryland to Alaska I could plan the trip to go through there....

Road trip!

Peter, when traveling from Thunder Bay to Moose Jaw, it makes for a splendid stopover.
