AFAIK the dpr series (1005,2005) have been less than stellar in regards to their power supplies. That info comes from avs so take that statement with a grain of salt.

I finally got to hear my M60s today, I just bought a NAD T763
and hooked it up after some initial setup from my PC.
First Impressions - excellent !
I really like the EARS mode on the NAD on music playback.

if your happy with the setup...don't listen to anything else and you'll be fine! just kidding

Curious though, you said this a few posts back

In reply to:

EQ -> Y 4600 has one, but i would not use it. Well maybe
for evaluating speaker distances. Y 4600 wins here.

Are you sure you know what an eq really does? It has nothing to do with speaker distances, that would be the typcal Auto setup or calibration systems like YPAO on the yammie, Denon, pioneer, HK all have the same type of thing.

EQ has more to do with compensating for either bad speakers, or bad accoustics in a room, and adjust or tweaking your musical/movie sound quality beyond anything the typical treble/bass controls can do. It can be a very powerful tool if used RIGHT. OR a nightmare if you screw it up.

anyways, enjoy the setup. the nad indeed has power.

With a ratio of 10,000:1 in favour of screwing things up.

Yeah, I was putting EQ and all Parametric adjustments like YPAO in the same box when I wrote "EQ". Let's say i meant
"EQ, YPAO, MRAC, Room EQ, etc".
I figured I would only be asking for trouble if I used any equalizer to compensate for my M60s. Or worse, if the receiver would try to compensate on my M60s to match the VP100 & QS8s. I'll be better off NOT to have the feature at all

Since the NAD didn't have a microphone & test tones, I had to put in the Avia DVD and use the Radio Shack SPL meter.
Had to spend more time of that, but less than I expected.
Had I used a Yamaha 4600 with the micro, it could have figured the speaker distances for me; that part of the "EQ and parametric adjustments" feature would have been useful. I would have turned EQ and other things to Manual after that.

But I think I ended saving some time with the PC interface though; it was pretty easy to define 2 presets of 5 channels all Small w/sub @100Hz & 2 channels Large on Stereo. Also, renaming inputs and putting all unused in/outs to OFF on both presets was reallllly fast with a PC
interface - they were all on the same page. Once my Media PC is in, I'll have it hooked up to RS-232 on the T763 all the time.

yeah I tried the pc interface for the 773. It worked flawlessly.

As for the rat shack meter....trust me, you are better off using that then any auto setup nonsense I've seen yet

Enjoy the new toys

newf, hope you enjoy your 4600 too. I heard it's a nice unit.
I sure enjoy my 763. In the end, I think it was NAD's Soft clipping that sealed the deal. I feel more comfortable knowing my wife will have a harder time breaking the speakers by turning the volume up. At these price points, it's hard to find a receiver that's bad...

Cheers,
Francois
