Hi,
I have a pair of S300s right now, and eventually am going to upgrade to QS8s once I'm less poor
I need to have my surrounds wall mounted, and I have 2 options. The setup for the surrounds is about 3-4 feet behind the listener, 2-3 feet to each side, and about 4 feet higher than the listener. Both walls come to a corner, so I can either have:
1. the surrounds point straight ahead, towards the tv (front of the room)
2. move the surrounds about another foot back, and have the surrounds point towards each, perpendicular to the TV.
I know in a normal surround setup, the surrounds are setup like option 2...but because of how far back the surrounds are I wasn't sure if I was better off to just have the surrounds point straight ahead. Both the S300, and from what I've read the QS8, are very forgiving with position, but I'd like to set it up in the optimal position.
Thanks

I'm having trouble visualizing this. Wouldn't the speakers face each other in the forward position and face forward if you move them further back (presumably to the back wall) ?

The back of the room is designed like this
----------couch
|------------------------|
|------------------------|
|_1__--------------___|
-----2-------------|
-----|__________|
That's option 1 and 2. Sorry for the confusing wording
Edit: had to put "-" inbetween wall lines or it displayed all screwy in the forum.

What a cool room !! You did a good job drawing that with characters.
Assuming that position 0 below is unavailable (doorways ?) I would definitely go with position 1 myself.

Thanks for the drawing, that's it exactly.
Yeah, position 0 is actually a fire place, and due to a picture there's no way to mount it there (opposite side is no good either).
Thanks for the input, I was leaning towards 1 too I think the only thing I'll have to fool around with is the height to mount them. I can mount them anywhere from about 5 feet to 8 feet up.

I don't really know, but from my limited experience I would say (a) it really helps to mount them at least a foot or two above ear level, and (b) past that it doesn't seem to matter too much. The main thing is that you want some "up" in your "sidewards"
