oldskoolboarder,

Welcome to the Axiom forum! Here is "sushi" the self-proclaimed Axiom evangelist at the AVSforum (take note, Amie? ).

I have not listened to the Wharfedales personally, so cannot comment directly. However, I suggest you do a quick search on M40, M50, M60, etc. in the message boards here; you will find tons of user reviews/comments on these floorstanding Axioms.

thanks for the suggestion. i started to look at them, there's even a local dealer in my area. however, i figured out that it's a 4 ohm speaker and the 45tx is not.

Umm? Among the Axiom lines, the only 4-ohm speaker is the M80's. At any rate, I do not think the current 45TX will have any problems driving them at all. I also own the 45TX, and it has no promblems driving my 4-ohm Hales (along with 6-ohm VP150 and QS8) at pretty high volumes.

Btw, although I have never listened to the M80 in person, the owners here tend not to recommend the M80 unless you have a fairly large room with a generous listening distance. It seems that the M80 needs a plenty of room to "breath and sing."

Oh, sorry, the Maggies are a totally different beast. FYI, I previously posted my personal impressions on mwc's Maggies vs. his M22's here. Yes, typically for low-efficiency dipole planners, they do require a powerful and tolerant power amp. Also, their "effective" foot print is fairly large (although physically they are thin), since the further they are from the back and side walls, the better they sound.
