my new receiver arrived today. I really think that that remote sucks. Is there anyone else out there that has the 3805 and think the same of the remote? I have a hard time reading the display. Is there any options for me on getting something better?

I have the 2805, and the remote is just OK. I think the Denon manuals are very limited on understanding features and covering all topics in laymens terms.

In the 2805 and higher receivers they did increase the size of the receiver display, you also have an option to use OSD (on screen display) however you have to hook it up so your TV can display the images you see in the manual.

I thought the biggest difference between 2805 and 3805 was the remote -- the 3805 has this huge honkin' remote with a screen about the size of my PC monitor, while the 2805 has a normal remote with no display (or almost no display).

why not get a HARMONY remote??? the all in one? that should work fine with everything you have. i looked at the 3805...thought long and hard about it, but in the end...it just didn't sound better enough over the pioneer 1015tx to justify the 3x the price.

Can you use the Harmony remote to access all the functions on the 3805 just as if you were using the original remote? I have limited vision and what sucks about the Denon remote is that I have a hard time reading the on screen display. The letters as so small.
Thanks

Yeah, the 3805 remote is not my favorite. I like buttons I can touch without looking. I do this more than I realized. I'm using a MX-850 universal remote for my system and it does all of the 3805 commands except for the dedicated button to select PLXII Game mode for the surround processing. However, You can still get to this using the surround parameters button and the menu. I imagine the Harmony remote can be configured to cover all the buttons too. I'm glad to see the new 3806 has an improved remote.

P.S.
I should add you could add the PLXII Game mode control to the MX-850, but you would lose another command. The 3805 uses every button and all 40 soft buttons. However, the zone commands use 6 soft buttons and may not be that important to a user.

I've owned my AVR-3805 for about 1.5 years :O, anyways yes the remote is horrible. mainly because it eats batteries like crazy and is hard for me to read.

My universal remote (a MX-850 from Univeral Remote Control Inc) controls the 3805 with ease, it works effortlessly with my macros...

Example: Hit the "TV" button on my remote:

- Turn on Projector
- Turn on 3805
- Pause for 1 second
- Switch 3805 to "TV" function
- Dim Lights (Lutron Maestro IR system)

- D
