Ok guys, I'm going to refresh this thread to see what you all think. I do have a chance to unload my 350, but I'm having second thoughts about just keeping it so I have 2 subs, my 350 and my new 500. I was planning on placing the 500 in the left corner based on what some of you recommended. If I keep the 350 also, should I leave the 500 in the left corner, and place the 350 back near the seating, they would be along the same wall but far apart. Maybe I should just stick with plan A and sell the 350....
I can't decide...

Randy, as I suggested before, if you use both, try the mid front wall and mid back wall positioning which the Harman paper found to be good.

Sell the 350 along with the 60's and get 80's(V2)
There, I made the 80 posse proud!

Send the broken 500 amp back to FedEx, since you have the 350 packaged and ready for shipment, send it to Axiom. Box up and return the EP500..............then order two EP600 and be done with it, no more wondering about what to upgrade to next.

John, if you recall my room plan, I really don't have a back wall that I call part of the HT area. This drawing is not really to spec, as the right side wall appear shorter by scale. Maybe using the mid point of the left/right walls and keeping the 500 on the left side, as you mentioned that it would be the farthest from the open area?
The area behind the HT seating is actually a walkout area. We are planning on possibly putting a retro 50's corner booth and some black/white checkered flooring. The Pool table and bar area will be next to that where the room opens up.

Good thinking Tharkun, hmmmm, maybe I can convince the wife to get 2 600's if I let her get that new SUV she wants....Actually, the 350 might be going to a friend, I've had it to long for a trade in situation....

Gotta agree with Tharkan on getting 2 600s or if budget is an issue 2 500s. Or get 2 of each like me if you can't decide.
One technical problem which can compromise your sound quality will be using different subs. Trying to implement 2 different subs will guarantee you phase problems resulting in cancellation and peaks galore and difficulty in integration with the mains. Whichever route you go stay with the same sub.
I was concerned enough about this problem that I asked Ian and Tom to run sweeps on a 500 and 600 combined in the anechoic chamber 2 weeks ago. Those 2 subs are close enough in design that phase was not a problem and as I had hoped their combined response was additive with no cancellations. The 350 on the other hand is enough of a different design that phase integrity with a 500 or 600 may not be preserved.

One other thought on positioning subs after studying your room. If it was me I would first start with postioning 2 subs symetrically on either side of your centre channel. That is where you have the best chance of ensuring smoother FR and phasing with your mains given the large open space you have. With dual subs in a leaky space you have to concern yourself more with integation with your mains and locating close to those speakers on the same plane will help greatly.

I think you should give the 500 the 30 days and see how you get along. Mid-January you will know more.
