Since I replaced Lisa's micro system (those CD player/AM/FM/cassette things with the separate speakers) with a new Sony, I get the old one for the garage... figured I'd pop into Home Depot and pick up some cheap 18ga. lamp cord to run the speakers into the car part of the garage from the attached workshop... I guess they read audio forums, they've jacked up (?) the price of it to $0.79/ft.

I'll just buy a 50ft 16ga STJW extension cord for $9 and use that, thanks.

Wow, that's pretty darn expensive. I just bought a 250 ft roll of 12 ga. speaker wire from Lowes for 67 bucks or 27 cents a ft. Our Home Depot never carries it.

I am really surprised that it is that expensive.

Next time I go into our Home Depot, I'm going to look at the price.

It almost seems like it was mispriced?????

It must be mispriced. I worked last night at my Home Depot and looked at the wire prices.

The 16-2 speaker wire was $0.35/Ft. or you could buy a 50ft. roll of it for under $11(U.S.D.)

Maybe the exchange rate is to blame?

Dredging this old topic up again. Still hadn't mounted the speakers in the garage, took this project out of mothballs now that it's getting warm again. And I was resigned to use primary (ie: trailer wiring) wire to run the speakers, ran out this afternoon to stock up on batteries (everything in this bloody house runs on 1-6 AAAs per unit I think!) at the wholesaler I used to work shipping and receiving for... can't beat $0.10 a piece for AAAs... figured while I was there I'd look for an S-video cable to take to Lisa's moms on the weekend to for her DVD player to TV connection... got a 12' one for $4... score. Then the rolls of speaker wire caught my eye. Got 100' of 16ga. copper for $9.

Yes, I'm cheap... and yes, I will find a way to "take it with me."

In Canada Home Depot has 12gauge in the wall wiring for 92 cents per meter (39"). Just wired my whole house with it and it is awsome. Noticed last week that the price was up to 1.29 meter so somone found out that it beats Monster cable.

I actually JUST came back from Home Depot... bro wants me to build him a contractor style extension cord (ie: plug, bulk 14ga, device box with a standard duplex outlet) and I realize that within the last year my Home Depot went from listing in feet to listing in meters... so divide my rant by 3.

I notice at the new Home Depot on Kenaston that they have a feet/meter equivalence table to help their employees at the wire spool rack. I of course ask for a certain footage of cable in feet and the employee was lost until I pointed out the table. I hope they post that table at the other Home Depots.

Just tell them "1 foot = 1 meter" or "10 feet = 1 meter" depending on which country you are in

Here it's scrawled on the wall to about 6 decimal places in Sharpie.

I have heard that the price of copper is shooting to the moon. That could be one of the reasons for the Home Depot's price increase.
