Not over the ear, probably just in ear.

The stock ones are OK, but I've started using some Sony EX71 and they are much better. Didn't initially like the in ear, but it's getting more comfortable. I thought it had decent bass response, better than the Apple ones. Then yesterday I demo'ed Xtrememacs FS1, designed by Future Sonic. VERY nice response, comfortable fit, MSRP$149. Then I tried Ultimate Ears super.fi 5 EB. WOW, incredible soundstage and bass, though I can see where it's too boomy for some. Hard to swallow at $199 though. I looked at the Eytomic 6i's, since they had an $89 show special but it was TOO tinny.

Thoughts?

I have the ER-6i's and you definitely need to get a good "seal" in your ear for them to sound best. But once you get the hang of inserting them properly they sound fantastic.

No experience myself, but www.headphone.com has some good info. They even have a section dedicated to the iPod, with Ultimate Ears super.fi 3 Studio Black and super.fi 5Pro Black taking the top spots.

Could be. I tried to get a good seal, they had disposable earbuds to use. I thought the seal was correct but who knows. I went ahead and got a pair of Xtrememacs to check out.

I have a pair of ER-6i's for "serious" use and a pair of EX71's for knock around/workout.

The ER-6i's definitely take some practice to get them into place.

I have some Sony earphones. I can remember the exact model, but they are very good for $50. Many reviews say they are the best for the money. A tip: buy LOTS of Q-tips for earphones. Or else they get very...um...caked up.

However, ever since i have gotten my axioms...I have been a little critical of sound. so they don't sound fantastic by my standards any more.

For instance, the other day a few chaps were watching oceans twelve out in the hallway with some bose computer speakers. There was some scene where something exploded. In a bit of sarcasm, I exclaimed, "Dude, that explosion sounded AWESOME!"

"Shut up"

Buahah.
