Hi!,
Recently,I've brought Yamaha htr-5660, and connected with my sony speaker
(ve-501)for HT. The movie sound is ok, but music sound is terrible. So, I 'm
looking for a set of speaker to pair with the Yamaha. Here is what I'm
looking at:

1) Bostont acoustics vr965 (tower) $800/pairs for tweeter's
with 3 bravar as sur/center $200/peace
total=$1400

2) total 5 bravar with sub---> $1400

3) or Axiom set? about $1300-$1400

4) NHT ?

I was in tweeter yestoday to listen the Boston acountics vr-965 (tower).

Sound is just as good as recorded. The stage is huge and warm. I almost

want to buy that pair for $800 ( they offer me a $200 dis. from $1000 list

price). Is it good buy ? PLus other 3 speakes=total $1400. For that price

range, any other suggestions ?

I mostly listen to classical & light music.

You help is really appreciated,

thanks

Allen

All Boston Acoustics were disounted 50% this weekend at GoodGuys. Don't know if it's still available. Axioms would also work well (better?) for HT and your musical tastes.

The Axioms really shine with classical music, in part thanks to the generally more neutral style of recording in the majority of today's classical CDs (as compared with other music genres). The Axiom speakers are very "honest" and sometimes unforgiving for bad or "hot" recordings.

Although I think BA's VR-M bookshelves are excellent, my impressions on their floorstanders have not been that positive: Listen carefully to, say, lower string sections of an orchestral piece. I've found they are a bit colored there. IMO, the Axioms will provide better overall sound quality for the $$$ (but of course you came to the Axiom message boards! LOL).

Hi! thanks for the information and input.
I was in a local dealer to audition the paradigm, Monitor 7.
Sound, again, is incredible good for movie. But as we switch
back to the music side, I still like the BA VR965, which seems more smooth to my ear. Am I running into so call "first good impression from BA, regardless whatever I
head later", or indeed BA sounds better than monitor 7 ?

I'm also considereing Axiom as both of you suggested.

What axiom speaker should I get ?

(by the way, tweeter call me back and they could lower
BA cr965 to $700, for that price, should I go ahead to
get it or try axiom?)

ps, I have read your review about axiom and magi. It is an

excellent piece of the article. It just simply put a reader

right into a live concert performace.

Allen
