My Pioneer Elite DV-45a dvd player has been working lousy these days and am wondering if I should get it repaired or get a new dvd player. I am getting different colored lines across my tv and improves a bit after it has been on a while. I tryed cleaning my cables but it did not help. I have a Pioneer Elite 53" rear projection TV and am thinking of getting another dvd player, but not a Pioneer.
Any input would be appreciated.

You are sure that it's not the TV? That sounds more like an issue with the display device than the DVD player. Have you tried different outputs on the player?

The pioneer dvd player would not read certain parts of a dvd which I was able to play on my computer.

I just went through all this and came to the conclusion that DVD technology is about to go through a rapid evolution, and soon. I’d buy something real cheap for now to get you through for a few months. In about six months, HD DVD players will be hitting the streets in mass numbers which will mean lower prices and deals on a bunch of current high end DVD players like the Denon 3910. At least that’s what I’m betting on, and waiting for.

DVD technology is going through a rapid evolution, IMHO how fast the new technology gets accepted is another factor.
Many people have invested in high end DVD players because the picture is already outstanding, this won't be like going from VHS to DVD. Price and compatability to existing systems will also be a big factor. I'll give myself a couple years before I make a decision on going with the new stuff, I'll let HD DVD and Blu-ray battle it out in the meantime.
