$300 to protect a $300 bulb that might will never need the protection? Seems a bit overkill

Not the bulb, it is 150 for each of my audio systems. For the projector I decided to just use one of those receptacles.
So actually, I’m spending 150 to protect several thousand dollars worth of gear in two locations.
Might be overkill, but the piece of mind is worth it to me.
