It may just be me but I really wish the forum would allow more time to edit a post than we currently have.

Oh and we need a spellchecker...a rolleyes smilie...an easier way to quote others on the board.

I definately agree.

But...IMHO the board needs to be upgraded.

You could easily archive this whole board, and start a new one up on Invision, vBulletin, or any other board. Just have a link to this old board, all archived.

Then again, I am a youngin and am used to other, nicer forums that I am involved with, but really, I think everyone could benefit from the trove of features in a new board system. Besides, it would look a whole lot better. And everyone likes stuff looking new n shiny.

I, too, would like to see the time available for editing extended. I do like that, when you edit a post here at the Axiom forum, you can chose whether you want others to know you've edited. Thus, I can quickly fix all of my stupid grammatical/spelling/punctuation errors (OK, most of them, anyway) without getting the raspberry from all of you.

On other boards, where you can edit your post anytime, even days later, you have a very short time (a few minutes) to edit without your edit being automatically noted at the bottom of your post. This is actually a good thing since it prevents people form changing the context of their post without others knowing the post has been edited.

However, many times times the edit is a simple grammatical/spelling/punctuation correction that I'd rather not have to admit. . But, most boards which operate this way have a "reason for editing" feature which allows you to explain your edit. I guess I'd rather have the ability to edit a post anytime, and endure the embarrassment of having my silly errors exposed, than not be able to edit after a half hour or so.

Though I wouldn't mind seeing the board upgraded to include features available at other boards that I find useful (such as a "QUOTE" button that automatically quotes the post to which I'm replying), there are a few things this board has, that I would hate to lose, like the "Who's Online" feature. And, I actually prefer creating my own links as opposed the the buttons that create them on other boards.

Regarding a spell checker, if you use Internet Explorer, or an IE based browser, I cannot recommend too highly ieSpell. It's a free Internet Explorer browser extension that spell checks text input boxes on a web page. It's not adware or spyware. It places a small button on your IE toolbar, and works just like the spell checker in Word. It's fast, customizable, and spell checks in any of the 3 variants (US, UK and Canadian) of the English Language! Though it's free, they do ask for a donation. I donated because I believe in supporting well designed programs that actually ARE helpful.

I would similarly like to see the edit time extended, especially those who are keyboard challenged like myself.

As far as overhauling the entire website, I have mixed feelings about this. There is a certain charm about the current website that I don't get with the other AV websites.

Requests duly noted . . . boards are on the programmer's list, but full warning, they are down past June!! But we'll review your suggestions then. We are at least due to upgrade this software and offer some new features - maybe some flashing banners, ads by google. . . hahaha.

A twin engine private plane just crashed on approach to Melbourne airport.

Flew RIGHT OVER the school where five of our grandchildren are attending, but managed to crash about a quarter of a mile just beyond.

I believe Rick(Brother Bob)was also flying today. but he flies further south. The plane that crashed came from the north.

Maybe Ian would rather have a private train car than a new aircraft for runnin' you guys back and forth to Alberta?

I'd like more time to edit posts. I always thought that it would be better for (think "International Talk Like A Pirate Day") all those in favor to say "Argh!"

HOWEVER, and I know I'm in the minority here, I don't give a whit about upgrading the forum software. It's the people that make this place great, not the tools. I'd much rather have Axiom spending their finite time and money on product development than on modest enhancements to the forum. I'm just pleased that it is offered at all, and that the collegiality and open sharing we all so enjoy is sponsored so generously and without editorial restriction.

Well said, Tom. Granted, I hardly have any experience with other forums, but I find this one just fine. I don't find myself hankering for more bells and whistles. I like the bare-bones approach here. And really, like Tom said, it's the members who are a driving force here and not the slick display.

Maybe it's cuz I'm old fashioned and don't like change? Bah humbug.

I'm with you guys. It took me a long time to get used to the sand display mode instead of the Axiom standard (someone talked me into it...). Maybe I'm just a luddite, but I like the current system.

I think I prefer it the way it is. Teaches discipline. Kinda like sitting on that email that was written in a fit of anger as a “reply” to a bonehead that just pissed you off.

Strangely enough, screwing off at this sight has taught me how to better respond to my direct reports at the day job.

I’d vote to leave well enough alone. But then again, I don’t really care one way or the other. If anything, making it easier to post a link would be nice for us ADD guys.

I forgot to mention one thing about this forum which I love and would hate to see change. When you login to any forum, there are indicators denoting new threads and new posts. On this forum, we have numbers showing how many of each. On other forums there are check marks, or the thread is highlighted in bold, or whatever.

On this forum, those indicators do not disappear UNTIL you refresh the Main Index page. On most of the other forums I frequent, these indicators seem to disappear after a certain length of time (which seems to be about a half hour), regardless of whether I've read the posts or not. I'm often called away from the computer for one reason or another, or it takes me longer than a half hour to compose, insert pics and/or links in, and edit (so I don't make to large a horse's posterior of myself), a post. The result is, there are no more indicators of which threads have new posts, and which posts in the thread are new. I have to check dates and time, which lengthens the process even more. I HATE THAT! .

So, I sincerely hope that, whatever changes are implemented, if any, the indicators of new threads and posts remain as they are now, unchanged, until the Main Index page is refreshed.

Absolutely, Jack. I think the difference is that at most other forums, people don't read every single thread; they pick and choose. At least in my case, I do try to read all of the threads. Except the political ones.

I wouldn't want any drastic changes made to the forum. I like it pretty much the way it is. The only reason I suggested more time to edit is I use Microsoft word for my spell check and even at that I still mess up at times with the wrong words here and there. If it were a choice of either we change all the features or none I would rather it didn't become a different format.

I added the iSpell to my browser so hopefully my spelling should improve.

I bring up Outlook Express and use the spellchecker there.

I'll use google for the occasional word I am not sure of spelling on.

I did the archaic thing and bought a dictionary. Small paperback edition I can keep right next to the desk.
