For you folks who have a Sony 300 disc MegaChanger (Mark, Tom & ??) ... do you guys know where the IR sensor window is located? I'm thinking in the upper right hand corner of the large display window but I'm not absolutely sure.

Rick - I don't know for sure. I have two 400 disk changers of different model numbers (400 & 455 maybe?). I'll try to remember and check when I get home, but that won't be until way late tonight. Didja RTFM?
Sorry.

Didja RTFM
Tom, believe it or not I did RTFM but the FM doesn't show nor say a single word regarding the IM sensor or sensor window.

I know this will probably be no help at all, but on my Sony 400 disc CX985 it's a little red round window right on the face with a..uh,.."IR" right above it.

Rick, you crack me up.
I have CDP-CX400 and CDP-CX450. On each, there is a "IR" symbol at the lower right corner of the window that is to the left of the disk loading area.
I can't be sure, but from the image available to me, it looks like your model right have an indicator there, too.
I could NOT be certain from visual inspection, clumsy testing or RTFM that the sensor IS in that corner, but I can't prove it is NOT.

Thanks Tom and Rich ... my unit has the the minuscule 'IR' printed symbol in the pictured location but no sensor window can be seen anywhere around the symbol with even the power of the trusty MagLite. On both of my units it *appears* as though the IR sensor window is on the top edge of the display window towards the right hand corner.
I bet Sony did this on purpose, "Let's put the IR symbol in a different location from the IR sensor window on the 300 disc units, that'll keep the redneck busy for a couple of days."
It's working.

When all else fails, pull out the flashlight. If you hold the flashlight up to the face it will typically illuminate behind the translucent screen and you can see where the IR window is located.

Rick, you STILL crack me up.
Bruce, I tried that method (it sounds like Rick did too) without producing conclusive evidence. I know what you mean; I am usually able to find those sensors on other components, but there is some kind of Super Secret Sony Sensor Surface Sublimation Strategy employed.
BrotherBob, I'm speculating that you need the precise location so that you can properly place some kind of IR transmitter in a remote location?

Ya know, I tried the flashlight thru the translucent screen looking to see an area that I thought would be it too!! I must have looked from four different angles trying to get a good look in there. I even made the Wife and Kids angry cuz I kept getting in their way. After a while I gave up in disgust and went and scrounged thru stacks of books til I found the manual.
And there it was,.....a little red window on the front of the panel right next to the keyboard plug.
Right where I Didn't look!!

Have you tried obscuring most of the remotes transmitting LED with your hand, holding the remote as close to the chancger as possible, and pushing buttons while moving the remote along the face?

Ain't it just like someone to waltz in here with common sense and efficiency and ruin all the fun.

Well fellows I finally found the sensor window. Mike and Peter thanks for suggestions, they made me go 'DOH' but after trying my hand, a piece of cardboard and then a 3" thick book to cover the front of the player to cover the sensor window I then discovered that Sony must make one of the strongest remotes on the planet. No matter what I covered the front of the unit with the remote still worked at close range.
So...
I did my best orangutan impersonation and dangled the Elan IRE2 Emitter in front of the unit while trying to stand with my arms outstretched as far as possible to aim the remote at the Elan IRS1 Sensor mounted on the TV stand in the front of the room. I moved the equipment mounted IRE2 emitter around the display window and wallah, it is located where I originally thought along the top edge towards the right hand side of the display window.
Yes Tom I am installing an Elan IR system to my equipment so that we will be capable of aiming the remote at the TV and having the equipment in the back of the room be controlled. I actually have the system installed and the Sony disc players were the last items to get connected. It's a pretty slick system, thus far I really like it.

So, the sensor is in the upper right corner of the window, but the "IR" indicator is on the LOWER right corner of the window?
Nice.
Thanks, Rick!

Yessir Mr. Tom, the 'IR' emblem is certainly not where the IR sensor window is ... not on the 300 disc changer anyway.
Maybe they got confused with the disc changer and Ryan Newman's Sony sponsored Dodge, "Hideki ... the IR decal is supposed to go on the CAR!"
Who knows!
