slightly off topic but how do you like your Sony 60 inch SXRD. was thinking of the 50' version, have heard some good and bad things so it's on my list. went to see the sony 50' SXRD, and a 50ish dlp by samsung today, wasn't overly impressed by either, one store was showing the movie contact with jodie foster from cables hbo and in my opinion all there sets looked awful, well maybe not awful but not good enough to drop 3 grand on. another store had the 50' sony with the bottom right 1/4 of the screen with a green tinge on it.the sales man said it had to do with unshielded speakers, where do CC hire these guys.this is my price range and i've just started to look. i think the next generation sony sxrd might even handle 1080p input when it comes out around nov. but i'm at a lose. anyone with some good recomendations would be helpful, i don't even need speakers since my full axiom order is finally setup, except of course my svs sub. thanks in advance to all those who have done the leg work and are happy.

The SXRD is amazing, to the point, where I don't watch non-hd channels anymore. Regular TV leaves a lot to be desired. You're right the second generation will come out late with 1080 P. There not much HD content, let along 1080P content these days. The 60inch dominates any room you put it in. my room is 15 x 20 and you can't miss the TV.

It took some tweaking to get my SXRD to look right. In the stores, they have a tendency to put it on "Vivid" picture mode due to the brightness. I like "pro" with adjustments

If sony is too expensive, look at the JVC ILA, its the same basic technology as the SXRD, liquid crystal on silicon.

I did not go with the DLP's to the lack of brightness on an angle. Also, my XBox 360 looked great on a sony. plasmas look great, but there are some that have afterimages and I can't do that with the amount of video games we play.

Greenish on the TV is crap, return that TV immediatly if that ever happened to you. I did not buy my stuff at CC or BB. They are worthless.

Remember the return rates for ANY HD TV are very high, with some stores reporting 25%.

my two thoughts. with HD content and a DLP/SXRD/PLASMA you will be a happy man. find the best tv for your budget and move on, and don't forget the hd package for your dish / cable.

I sure am satisfied with my SONY SXRD. I don't think that the picture could be any better.

That return rate seems terribly high. I guess that they have forgotten about quality control?

I have to 50 version of the SXRD and am completely satisfied.

There is a thread on AVS just about SXRD and the setups that give the best picture. Link

My son has a 56 Samsung 1080P and loves it.

If you wait for the new SXRD you won't have to look at the ears.

Bug: I don't even notice the "ears" anymore.

The HD TV return rates are for a few reasons:

1) People don't understand the technology, they assume widescreen is HD. They get the TV home and it looks worse with "regular" tv than the old tv
2) shipping is done by shippers, its not a product you can take home. this add complications
3) ther are some quality issues, although I don't believe the "real" DOA rates are any worse than "normal" tvs.

all in all its an expensive electronics component that works best with an educated buyer, many of the CC and BBs are not willing to invest, they are only interested in selling you the warrenty. I'm generally against the insurance, but you might want to make an exception for an HDTV.

No quite what we mean. Previous models have speakers on extentions right and left that look like "Ears". There is even a thread on how to cover them up.

I find the SD quality to be as good as my CRT if I watch the shows in the 4x3 format. Zooming and stretching makes some unviewable. With the 50 inch screen, 4x3 is a big tv.

I have Charter Cable and they are the pits. No HD over cable so I have an antenna for HD.
