Well, the wait begins. I finally submitted my FO order for the rest of the system. 4 QS8's, and an EP 600 (V). Lead time for the sub is 3 weeks, and 6 weeks for the QS8's. I have been happy so far with the M80s and the VP150, but feel that something is lacking, when I watch movies...and I attribute that to the surround, and sub.

Anyway, I have learned lots on this forum, just by reading peoples' opinions, reading the documents on the home page, etc. So thanks to all that have helped, either through their own research, or questions.

Tick...tock...tick...tock...as time flies....hehe.

See ya,
inthedeck.

Hopefully time will fly.

The EP600 will add a whole new dimension to HT.

Congrats on the order!

Thanks...hopefully, I will have a chance to audition it, once my brother receives his. He upgraded from a 500 to a 600...so, hopefully, I will be able to make it to his place, to check it out. I am sure I won't be disappointed...and hopefully, he doesn't play Star Wars E1, otherwise, his son will run out of the room crying..."But I'm scared of Star Wars..." hehe.

Take care...and thanks.

Thanks...and believe me, so do I. I was going to order them from regular stock...but since we are moving soon, I figured I could wait a little bit of time...and have them shipped to where ever we end up. Plus, it ends up saving a bit of money...in the long run.

As for time, well, yeah, it will move at it's own pace.

Congrats on your purchase, the EP600 should really make a big difference when you are watching some movies.

Thanks. I am sure that the surrounds will help a little as well. The M80's and VP150 themselves are fine, but when viewing a 'helicopter' scene, I think the surrounds definately help a little...and that's where I am missing something.

I did manage to watch a few movies that I rented, and War of the Worlds would have been one of those movies that I would want to watch again, once everything is hooked up...just to compare the actual difference between no surrounds/sub, as compared to having the surrounds/sub. I am sure it will be a totally different story.

Again, thanks...and I am sure time will move right along...since we will be moving rather shortly. Let's just hope the new place is more accepting of the speakers...in terms of accoustics.

see ya,
i.

Whenever you get the system up and running you *may* want to give the neighbors a heads up prior to watching the WOTWs movie ... the 600 will most certainly get the masses gathered for a homeowners association 'emergency' meeting.

Congrats on your new system Inthedeck, you should have a lot of fun with it.

HA! I figure I am going to have to keep the gains down on this one...for sure!

Once we move, I should have a better idea of where the system will be placed. If I have it my way, it will be upstairs, in a smaller room, than downstairs, in a larger room, under which people live. Gotta love accessory apt's underneath the main floor.

Though, from the sounds of it, not too many people will be thrilled, shall I ever become really angry...and TURN IT UP! hehehehe!

Anyway, thanks for the heads-up.

It won't make any difference where it is. The 600 will shake the foundations of your building.

Definately interesting to know...hehe. I am sure I will definately be more than overwhelmed, once it arrives. Might have to keep the gains down...until we have a true home, with no neighbors. Ah, wishful thinking....

Well, looks like shipment is on its way today. Should be here next week sometime...perfect timing, I must say. We should be all nice and moved by then. Let's hope the neighbors aren't too terrified.

See ya...and thanks to everyones advice/comments, etc.

I'd be surprised if he wasn't.

An EP600 in an appartment?!?

I didn't think they mixed well. What are the bets that if one or the other goes, it's the appartment?

Being related to the man....
I am sure he will just adjust the levels on his AVR and keep both the speakers and the apartment.

I have an unfair advantage....I know his FIANCE really well.

As far as the apt. goes...well, we moved to a new place. It's a house...(though, it's a 2 family, side by side, with a whole house apt. in the basement). So, at least no more old lady to deal with...just the owner of the house...who doesn't seem to be around a lot (or so I hope).

But...as Tarun said, I will most likely turn down the gains/volume on the sub...at least during night-time movie watching. Daytime...well, complain away...I don't care!

Just spoke to the Deck.
He is specing out qs8 mounting locations. He has his 12gauge speaker wire.

Should be any day now, although the amp in his 600 was shot. Axiom is, of course, sending a new one right away. Basically the volume control on the sub was bad.

I am sure there will be much sound and ear to ear smiles this weekend at the Inthedeck home.

Yessir...things are quite hectic...so apologies for not being on in a couple of days. Had to deal with the closing, moving, unpacking, cleaning, trying to get something to eat in between...

Currently, I am awaiting a new amp. from Axiom, as the volume control on the 600 does not work. The speaker is OK, but it just plays at a static volume. Axiom sent a new one yesterday, so, hopefully, I will have it soon enough.

I did manage to wire up all the other speakers, and tried it out with NFS:Underground, last night, and so far, so good. The sounds of cars passing by, police vehicles chasing me, etc. was great. Once everything is calibrated/mounted, I am sure to have more of a 'review' per se...though, I am sure that has been covered many a time.

More to follow...once I have a bit more time this weekend, to set things up, and get them calibrated/mounted.

We just bought our "retirement" lakehouse, so I can appreciate your situation. The only advice that I can give is to take your time. We are currently in the process of moving from our current house (getting it ready to sell) to the lakehouse. And, I fully UNDERESTIMATED the time and complexity of the move.

Oh well, there really is no rush!!

And, we leave for a one week cruise tomorrow.

Don't let it stress you and get to you!!!

^^ Nah...RP...no stress here. Moved so many times in life, that it's not even a point to stress over anymore. And I'm only 32. My family and I have lived in Aruba, NY, The Himalayas, and I have moved to Massachusetts, NY, etc. etc. The list is way too long to even describe.

But, I have everything hooked up, and so far, so good. Calibrated the speakers, and played the Xbox 360..sounds great. My friend and I were totally excited.

Anyway, more to follow....once I set up more stuff...like DVD surround, etc.

Later.

Sounds like you may certainly need to keep the Axiom boxes deck...and I thought moving three times during the past 26 years was a gypsy on the roam. Did you get everything running and calibrated yet? (It IS the weekend, you know )

Hey BB, yeah, I did keep the boxes...and will do so, until the new place is permanent.

As for calibration, yes, I played around with a few settings (th HK receiver has so many sounds modes, I don't think I could calibrate them all...hehe). So far, everything is good...and still finishing up the cleaning process of the room. I attached the wires, vie plastic hooks, to the ceiling, so that they are 'out of the way' but still visible. I didn't want to ruin the walls...so I didn't make too many holes in them.

Still waiting for the replacement amp, from Axiom, and once that gets here, I will be able to use the sub. Right now, the volume level on the sub it too 'high' so it's hard to turn it on, to use it. Once the new amp gets here, I will change it out, and finally get to use the sub.

I must say though, that watching the one movie, while I was testing everything was great. 'Kingdom of Heaven' sure has some serious fight scenes, and arrows flying around was a trip!

Xbox 360 games are a whole new monster, with the 5.1 channel (since they don't really support 7.1) and I am sure they will be even better, with the sub, once I can use it.

Other than that, it's all coming along...and I am sure to post some pics, once I have everything set up and done (another few days, or so).

See ya.

So, it's finally done. I set everything up, mounted everything, and ran cables along the ceiling, using plastic hooks, with adhesive on the back, so as to not screw up the walls, in this rental home. They are 'visible' but not 'ugly' looking, imho. Maybe someone will judge, when I put pictures up...but it's OK. It's not a permanent setup.

I have played Xbox 360 games, I have listened to music, and I have rented two movies to watch (over the next couple of evenings). I will be watching 'Syriana' and 'The Fog' as soon as I have the chance.

I tell ya, I gotta say, everything sounds great. Music through 7.1 channels is awesome. Crashing cars in NFS:Underground is great...as are the cop cars that are chasing me, and the other cars that I wizzzzzz by. Bass is incredible, even though I have it turned down (as I promised the owner of the house that I would keep it low) and still sounds great.

The room needs some furniture...which I am searching for...but no one can agree what we should get. I would prefer recliners, but the soon to be wifey doesn't really want those...

Other than that...basically, just glad to be hearing new things each time I turn on the stereo...dvd player...xbox...whatever!

I will take some pics of the room...and upload to photobucket, and then post them, when I have a chance. The Canon 20D is still packed away...so, I have to take it out, and give it a nice little cleaning (including the lenses!). Once done, I will take the pics, and post them up.

Take care,
i.
