Hello All,
After working out a DVD player issue I have come to the conclusion that I need a line conditioner.
I have an old Panamax now which isnt quite cutting it....
Anyone have any recommendations for a good moderately priced unit?

I use Monster and am pretty happy with it, they can be had at some pretty good prices. Tripp Lite and Belkin are a couple good choices also.

I just bought a Panamax but haven't cracked open the box yet. What was your problem?

It seems odd to me that a line conditioner would fix a line voltage problem .

The do stabalize the voltage too...so that must be the reason.

They may read the in coming voltage but they do not stablize the voltage. You would need a a voltage stabilizer to do that.

Get whatever kind of power conditioner that your friend lent you to try. If it fixed your problem then it should be good choice. What kind was it?

I stand corrected. Thanks much for the education. Someday I will know all this. I guess the device I used from my friend was just a conditioner...he had a Belkin and it did the job. So I am assuming the power in my basement is just dirty.

Like Wid I can't believe it is a power conditioning issue, but I guess it won't hurt to try. I have a TrippLite HTPowerbar10 which gives me good surge protection and each bank is isolated from the others.

The belkin line conditioners are going for very good prices at the moment. The model that was msrp at 700+ is now around 200+ NEW. I may look at those.
Thanks for the advice thus far.

First off, what really makes you think that you need a line conditioner?
Have you measured your line voltage with a voltmeter? If so, how much variation do you get over time?

Rat brings up a VERY good point, what I would recommend, get a volt meter, and plut it into some of the outlets on the surge protector that your projector is pluged into.. play a dvd, and watch the voltage, and try to watch the movie, or have a buddy watch the picture, while you are monitoring the volt meter, and when you get to a sceen with bass, monitor the picture to see the problem you stated, and also monitor the voltage, if the bass comes in picture goes to crap, and there is a drop in voltage then your problem is the amount of current hat your sub is pulling from the breaker.. and a line conditioner will solve this problem, but that is a very expensive way to solve the problem, one simple way to fix the problem is to plug the sub into an outlet on one breaker, and the projector into an outlet on another breaker. The rute cause is the wireing in your basement the wire is to small of gage of wire for the amount of current you are trying to draw; so when your sub starts making the noise, the sub amp is wanting to draw a lot of current, and when the amp wants a lot of current the line voltage will drop if the gage of wire is small enough due to I squared R losses.
Sure you can spend 200$ on a line conditioner; but that is just a fasad not a real fix to the problem, you will have a hard time, if you decide to get bigger amps for your main speakers, or add more eletrical stuff in your HT room.
Your projector power supply is probably much more sensitive to volage changes than your tv ever was..

Bren's earlier discussion and cartoon re power also comes to mind.
