Ken lives near San Francisco Bay. I have a friend in Alameda, and it's always in the 60s and 70s there. But, yesterday it was 93, so I suspect Ken is somewhere in that neighborhood. Both of them were cookin' yesterday. People who live along the Bay, need heat much more than they need AC.

You got it right. It's like this maybe 2-4 weeks out of every year. It's cold (ish) a lot more often. Plus, naturally I have horizontal sliding windows, which don't play nice with AC window units.

I feel for ya. Most years it's like that in Siberia, also. But, not this year. We hit 101 last week, 1 degree short of the record high, which was set in 1931. In the past we would have maybe of month of extremely warm weather. When I was a kid, we would sweat it out, take cold baths, stick our face in the freezer, but back in the '70s my Dad bought this monster of an AC. We needed pack animals to move it from the basement to the dining room window. It was humongous. It put out blasts of frozen air, and has changed summer, forever, for me.
