I'm considering purchasing the epic grand master 5.1 system, with the qs8's, vp150 and m22ti’s. However, I have a small room and my couch, the main seating area, is on the back wall. Also, the only arrangement that the room will allow for surround speakers is on the sidewall in the corner. I may be able to get 2 to 5 inches spacing from the back wall, but they will be still nearly in the corner. The tweeters are angled at about 45 degrees, so the tweeter firing into the corner will reflect off the back wall and end up in front of the main seating position. What kind of problems can I expect from this setup? Would it be better to go with a bookshelf speaker for the surrounds?

Hey Welcome Nick,
I'm sure others will chime in here, but you might want to consider mounting them to the back wall as an options. If you had them in a foot or so on each side of the back wall, then the outer tweeter would reflect off your side walls, and the inner tweeters would shoot towards the center of the couch. This might give you a great experience. I would also try to mount them at least a foot above your ears if possible.

Let me second the welcome, Nick. I have what sounds to be a very similiar setup: I think you'll hear many times here that the QS8s are among the most forgiving of speakers in terms of placement. I know it works for me!

While I don't have a similar configuration at all, I have found that the QS4s are extraordinarily forgiving; mine are mounted about a foot ahead of the listening position, and with the proper material (ie, things acutally encoded in 5.1) still provide an excellent surround experience.

sirquack,
Placement on the back wall is not an option. My living room looks very much like the photo that MarkSJohnson posted, except I have 2 windows on the back wall not symetrically spaced. This option would only let me put about a 2 or 3 foot spacing between them on the back wall, and my couch is right up against the back wall. They would be literally playing right into my ears like a set of headphones. I don't really consider this an option.
thanks for the rely though

MarkSJohnson,
My theater room setup is almost exactly like yours, except your width is about 5 or 6 feet shorter than mine (the measurement along the back wall). The photo's are great, I was able to see that our room's are very similar. You said that your setup sounds good with the qs8's in the corner. Do they blend well with the front speakers? For example when you have a pan from front to back or back to front, is it a seamless pan? My concern is that it will sound like 2 different tweeters since the rear speakers have a tweeter firing into the corner while the front's don't. Also, are the surround effects enveloping with this placement you have? Or, do you think that bookshelf's would work better for the job? I also noticed that you have towers in the front in such a small room(either the m60ti's or the m80ti's). I was debating between the m60ti's and the m22ti's, since once I purchase the speaker stands for the m22's there isn't much price difference to just get the m60's. How do you like the tower's in your room? Do you wish you would have gone with the bookshelf's instead, since you have a small room like me?
thanks for the rely and pictures
- Nick

Exactly John, He sure wishes he had a room as big as mine. Maybe if he sold that snow blower, he could put on an addition.

Nick, with the room situation that you describe, wide dispersion surrounds like the QSs work very well positioned either on the side walls a few inches from the back wall or on the back wall a few inches from the side walls, whichever is more convenient.
