Is there more sound out of the side speakers in 7.1 and less or little out of the rears?
My rear speakers will be close to my head and I am thinking about going with QS4s there rather than the QS8s that I planned on.
I would stick to QS8s on the side because they are farther away and there is more side sound right?
Does this make sense or am I not going to be happy unless I go with QS8s all around?
I have the M22 and VP150 up front and plenty of bass to handle the low end.

The QS8s and the QS4s use different cones and as such do not timber match to one another as well as they should timber match to speakers of identical construction. As such, you might hear a difference as things passed from the rear to the side. Whether or not this is truly apparent and enough to bother you, I've no idea.

I just went from 5.1 to 7.1, with 4 QS8s. There is not a ton of sound out of the rear speakers, but that said, I would be concerned about timbre matching, especially if the rears are close to your head. They're close to mine, too, which is why I went with the QS8s even though they're overkill.

that wouldn't sound too good.
sell the qs4's, get 4 qs8's.
if you cant afford that, get 4 qs4's.
