Anyone here play golf? I've always been interested to see who amongst us have dual vices of audio and golf. It's pretty cold here in NY but next week I'm trekking down to Myrtle Beach, SC for a week of golf and (hopefully!)sun. Usually during the winter I'm into audio/video and when the warm weather comes, then I focus on the golf game.

Me! Me! Me!

(Though I didn't get out even once last season!)

Expect Ray to come by and Obliterate this thread shortly. He plays almost every day in-season, the bastard.

I try to get out as much as I can, I LOVE golf, the best sport ever invented IMHO.

I usually try to get in 25 games a season (In calgary, the season is from April to late Sep).

I think I am currently residing at a 15 Handicap (havent checked the stats since october)

I too like to golf but don't make it out much. I guess I am able to do more now than I have in the past, its just virtual on the Wii, not the same but quite fun.

I was on my high school team and played a few years at the university I attended. Also have been known to build custom clubs when I find time with my busy life. Have had one hole-in-one in my life.

Not I... I refuse to take up the game seriously while I'm still fit enough to play more strenuous sports.

I'll take up golf when curling starts becoming an effort.

As Mark said (BTW - that's MISTER bastard to you !!! ), I do enjoy my golf. Here in Rochester NY, we see a golf season from mid-April to end of October and I average 70 rounds per year.

Actually living on the course has been helpful (we moved to a place just off the 5th tee almost 2 years ago). Being empty nesters, we were looking to downsize and get our living space all on one floor. Based on what was available and the prices that were being asked (some of those folks are apparently smoking premium grade stuff), the place we bought was a no-brainer and the added bonus was it's location at the club where I was a member. I splurged a bit and bought a riding cart as well. Heaven is finishing dinner at 7 PM and then driving out of the garage to the tee to play until dark.

The course is a bit harder than most as it is a links course laid out in wetlands. (Do a Google map of Blue Heron Hills Country Club in Macedon, New York) Being a bit off-line will add penalty strokes unless you can hit the ball while treading water. As an illustration, at the club we moved from, I was a 13 handicap, at BHHCC I am a 16.

Sometimes frustrating and rarely do you complete a round with the same ball you start with. Had some excitement the Weds. after Thanksgiving - finally broke 80 on the course (78). Very exciting and I'm still enjoying it (and, as you can see, sharing the information at any opportunity ).

I am at an interesting point in my life. The new house (including the basement home theater I put in) is finally set up/finished the way we want it. I'll be 60 next month and will be retiring end of July. Golfing 4-6 times per week begins August 1 and into the forseeable future.

Wow, you asked what time it was and I built you a clock. Sorry for the blog. To answer the question, yes, I play golf and really enjoy it.

When I lived more in the Southern part of the state golfing was all year round twice a week, I used to carry a six handicap, I've played once in 5 years since my early retirement and the birth of my sons, I'm sure I wouldn't break 100 now. The good news is my boys are at the ages (3 and 5)that they are ready to start playing, this summer I'll start getting them on the driving range

How about Amie sponsoring a round in Huntsville for the Axiom Owners Club members?

I've committed golf. It is usually more akin to a very long round of croquet. I've not played well enough to enjoy it in many years.

Love it, though. Golf is a game, not a sport. Any activity where you can drink beer and/or smoke a cigar during the competitive portion does not qualify as a sport. Bowling is a game, too.

Ray, warmest congratulations on your impending retirement. I can ponder few more enjoyable days than having you patiently indulge my companionship on the links. Someday, my friend.

Tom - maybe we can meet halfway - Kansas???

Golf offers more than just being a game/sport. Once I got to the point of realizing I was never going to be good enough at it to warrant getting upset or frustrated, it became much more enjoyable.

There are 4 pieces that I look at with golf:
1) It allows me to be competitive (with myself and the golf course and the occsional friendly wager)
2) I get to spend 4 hours with friends
3) The enjoyment of beautiful surroundings
4) The act of playing the game.

Since the golfball is on the face of the club for less than a total of 30 seconds during a full round, enjoyment of all of the other pieces keeps everything in a nice perspective.
