I'm upgrading my receiver in the next few days and the 4806 is on my short list. Anyone out there have any experience with this unit, Thanks.

Not going with the 4306? I was thinking about going with this one to,but I cant see paying that much more for THX and very few other features. Oh yea and only 10 watts more.

The 4306 is on my list also, but since I don't plan on buying another receiver for a very long time, I'm debating spending a little more and avoiding any upgraditis.

I hear you, why not go for the big boy denon 5806(think thats the number)only 3 grand more. I need to add I dont think a big power supply is worth $2000 more that 4306.

Do you mean the 4806CI? Or are you buying a refurbed 4806?

I'm not sure I'd go for the refurb. I believe it has issues with 7.1 LPCM. I was keeping up with this unit and firmware updated because I wanted one. I stopped researching it a while back. I don't know if Denon has issued a firmware update to resolve these issues or not.

If I were to buy a new AVR today, knowing what I know, I'd get the Anthem, AMV-40 because I use an external VP. Not sure what I'd use for amplification, but the Emotiva's look OK for the money. If I needed a so-so VP with the AVR, I'd go for the 4806CI over the 4306. It has more to offer than just a video processing piece and THX. They dumped some coin in it's DA's and other gadgets for improved sound quality.

Marnantz is working on their 7.1 LPCM bugs (I'm one of their test dummies and they are forwarding my findings to Japan for resolution). It has its problems just like the rest of them, but damn it sounds great....

I'm looking at the both the 4806 and the 4806CI, and I'm most likely going refurbished through Dakmart. I believe Denon has resolved all the firmware issues and after speaking with Dakmart yesterday they claim to have all the latest firmware updates, but they also told me most of their 4806's are being upgraded now to the 4806CI so it makes me wonder if I should go with the CI.

Just as an update, after waiting on the line for 30 minutes I talked to Denon's tech assistance and was assured that all the 4806's out now are updated and fine as well as all units going to Dakmart.

That's good news. I didn't really want all the video processing that the CI does. A waste for me.

You do realize that you can get a new 4806CI for $2999 from an authorized dealer right? Don't know what Dakmart sells the Non Ci for, but figured I'd give you that to chew on.

So are you in a big hurry? The new Denon's are looking mighty fine to me if you don't need anything right now. The Genum VP's are enough reason to wait alone.

I'm in no big hurry, like you I don't really need any video processing. The 4806 has about everything I think I'll need for the future. I don't see me upgrading my TV anytime soon, so even if HDMI 1.3 comes out with the new Denons I'll have no use for it, plus I would probably have to pay full retail.

Auto lip sinc is about the only thing I'm looking foward to with 1.3.

What's deep color anyway? I'm color blind as is. And it gets worse as the cocktails go down.....

If you get that 4806, I'd be interested in hearing about it. I might just buy one. With my luck and these damn recievers, I might as well have a back up.

Did you read through the 4806 thread at AVS? Too long for me, but firmware confirmation and use with 7.1 LPCM might be there...
