I looked as this Side By Side Comparison Can't seem to find anything regarding 480i-480p conversion from analog to HDMI and 16)HDMI - 2307 (1080p upconversion), 2807 (480i->480p only??)
The 2307 does up-convert analog signals to digital output via HDMI but does not upscale video in any way. It will pass an incoming 1080p signal through HDMI. One drawback I’ve read is that it’s onscreen display is 480i. If your HDTV is not capable of displaying 480i you get a blank screen.
The 2807 also up-converts analog to digital output via HDMI, it does de-interlace 480i to 480p and also passes a 1080p signal through HDMI.
If you get either of these receivers and want to upscale a lower resolution to 720i, 720p, 1080i or 1080p you will need your HDTV, DVD player to handle that.
Sorry if I missed it but what sort of HDTV do you have or plan to buy? It may very well handle most of your up-scaling for you.

What HDTV won't do 480i? As most TV signals are still 480i. The problem is that when you are watching in a higher display you won't get the OSD from the receiver visible on the TV, as I am unaware of any that can display 2 modes at once, 480i OSD and 480P(or higher), I guess it might be possible with PiP.

I said that wrong. It should have read.
“One drawback I’ve read is that it’s onscreen display is 480i which some HDTVs don‘t accept over HDMI. If your HDTV is not capable of accepting 480i via HDMI you get a blank screen.” AFAIK this is mostly an issue with a few older HDTVs. Since he was keen on using HDMI I thought it was worth mentioning even if it was unlikely to be the case.

I have a three year old Samsung 720p DLP. JohnK suggested (at the other thread I started here regarding upscaling) that my TV may be able to do the upscaling. I hope this is the case.

Skerdi, I didn't "suggest" that your set "may" be able to do upscaling; it's basic video technology that a set with a native resolution of 720 has to scale material coming in to fit that in order to have a complete picture.

Sorry John if it sounded that way. Sometimes is simply my way of expressing things in English (not my native language). I totally understand you in terms of upscaling.

Just a quick update on my order: I was pleased to receive an email from Noreen saying that my package is scheduled to be shipped on 3/7, which is a little over 2 weeks from the day I ordered. My longest wait was 5 weeks for QS4s.

After sevaral days of browsing online, posting at the forums, reading and researching, I finally pressed the button and ordered my receiver. I could not take it any more: the more I learned the more confused in terms of choice I became, thus harder to decide, and the more money I risked to spend. I know, I know, I really have a good handling of these issues now, you may say. Long story short: I got Onkyo TX-SR804 in Silver (press the silver square, underneat "Buy it Now" to see its actual color). It is basically their top of the line. I purchased fron an authorized online retailer. I initially wanted audio capabilties via HDMI version 1.2a, but as Mike (mdrew) clearly indicated on his search for a receiver, it is not possible to obtain uncompressed DSD for SACD, since no such player exists yet. 1.1 would be fine for me, at least for a year or two. I wanted to thank you all for all the support and great advice in this thread. Mike and John especially, you have been of great help. Now off to speaker wires for my surrounds and center. What do you guys think of This. I (I mean my wife) needs something white with a very small footprint, if you know what I mean

Very nice receiver, Skerdi; the 804 is one that I suggested to Mike earlier in the course of his search.
If the color and flatness of that wire will help your situation, fine. That's a bit pricey for 30', but flat wire is always more expensive since it isn't a standard item. If you order it from Amazon, add a CD to get over the $25 for free shipping.

Thank you John, I always value your opinion. As for the wire, I really need to find something to pleaze my wife, thus flat-wire in white (my walls are white). At the side of the surrounds the wires are going to be behind the sofa, so no problem here. However, from the receiver to the sofa, there is one 12 feet wall, below a window, that I need to run wires from. Here is another Flat Wire in White
