I'm using 16 gage speaker wire, and bare wire.
Is this wire thick enough, or is there any REAL use in getting 12-14 gage?
Also, is there any reason I shouldn't get bananas?

The gauge of wire depends on the length of the run and the impedance of the speakers. Unless you have a run in the 50 foot area 16 gauge is fine. The main reason to put out the extra money for banana plugs is if you'll be frequently connecting and disconnecting the speakers. If you aren't, you should save your money, since the bare wire connection works very well.

Unless you buy good banana's, it will diminish the sound a little, anyway, in which bare wire will sound better.
i am now bracing myself for many replies about how science will explain this and blind tests prove otherwise!
though, i am just speaking from my own blind test's opinions using banana plugs that cost me 10$ a pair
