I just purchase the XA-2 HD DVD player and it looks amazing. I have to say the picturing is a little better than my pioneer blu ray player. The only reason I bought this was I received the blu ray player as a gift.
I am having one problem though with my XA-2. I have to turn the volume up really high to get it to a similar level of normal DVD. So high in fact that I am getting hiss to a pretty high level. I am running HDMI for audio and video. I believe I read that a firmware update fixes this but cant be sure.
Any theories on this issue?
Thanks everyone,
Max

Max, The problem may very well be that you need to install the latest firmware as it deals with issues od HDMI connectivity and disc playback. I installed the firmware before I ever used my XA-2 and have never had any problems using HDMI. The upgrades are pretty simple to install.

How fast does the X2 boot up? Can you stop a dvd and restart it at the same spot? Any HMDI connectivity issues?
I’ve about had it with the quirks of my X1 and thinking about buying the X2. It’s bad enough that I opt for Blue Ray over HD/DVD when I go shopping. My PS3 is twice as easy to use. Just like a regular DVD player.

Mike, I saw a comparison chart on the internet for the load times on the various Toshiba's, but can't find it. I believe the XA2 is supposed to load anywhere from 1/3 to twice as fast as the previous players, I've never timed it but different reports say its about 16 to 20 seconds. I haven't had any problems with HDMI, but I made sure the player had the latest firmware loaded before I used it. I'm not sure if the DVD's will restart in the same place. I prefer the X2 over the PS3, the main reason being I can control it with my Harmony. There is a new firmware update 2.2 out for the X1 now, that may address some of the quirks.

Well that’s a whole hell of lot better than my load time. It takes no less than two minute for the stupid thing to boot up and eject. Anther two or three minutes to load the disk and play. The PS3 is so much friendlier to use it’s not even funny. It sounds like I better just plan to buy a new HD player. I don’t need the X2’s upconverting feature, so I may opt for A2 or A20.
