We use DHL at work because they are cheaper than other places, but wow... I sent a package to my sister who lives in Dubuque, Iowa (about 3 hours east, and a little north of me). DHL sends it south and west on day 1, then WAY east on day two, just to have to send it back west to Dubuque. I don't know HOW they can be cheaper that UPS! I mean, if I had shipped UPS, my sister would have had the package yesterday instead of getting it tomorrow.

It's the same as flying somewhere. The big planes only go between major cities. If you want to go from Buffalo to San Antonio, you get a small plane to Detroit, a big plane to Houston, and a small plane to San Antonio (2 chances to lose your luggage).

Your package has to go from your house to the closest Hub. Then it goes to the closest Hub to your sister. Then it goes to her. Looks like the Hub for your sister is in Kansas City, although Chicago might make more sense.

Maybe DHL is cheaper because they have fewer hubs. They drive more, but pay fewer people.

OK. So DHL says that the package I sent my sister, who lives 200 miles away, is supposed to get to her today, but I am not sure...

It is now in Cedar Rapids, Iowa... About half way between where I live and where she lives, but like I mentioned before, it was in Ohio yesterday. So in order to travel a little more than 100 miles (half the distance), DHL took the package on a 1400 mile trip. I told my sister to ask the driver if the package comes with its own souvenirs since it clearly went on vacation.

Blue box is where it is trying to get to. Red boxes are where it stopped along the way.
