Finally took some pictures of my room all primed and ready to be painted and carpeted. The last steps after an extensive renovation and things are finally coming to fruition!! Room is 24 x 20 with approximately a 7 ft ceiling.

Back wall removed showing room prior to renos. Elevator is at the very left of the picture.

The following five pictures are of the basement finished as aforementioned. I also removed all the original drywall and re-insulated to R30. Television, furniture etc. are under the tarps :-)

No I didn't because there was no question to respond to and I felt the discussion came to a natural end. If it will make you feel better though I can craft a response .

Mojo,

I am under the impression that this is your room? I just wanted to know what paint color you used(not the first picture, the remainder).

Thanks again

Wheelz,

We have the part number of the paint but we need to check with the place that we purchased it from to find out the name. The part number will mean nothing to you since it is store-specific. We'll look it up and get back to you.

My left side speaker location will have to be just past the bottom of the stairs. It would be easier to mount it directly on the wall, but I'm not sure if that's a good place for it because the one tweeter will be facing directly up the stairs. My only alternative is to move it in a couple feet off the wall and mount it onto the ceiling. The only problem with that position is that people's first impression upon coming down my stairs into the home theater is a speaker to the forehead. I could really care less because I'm always sitting down.

Any suggestions on placement? Will wall mounting it be okay? Will I lose optimal soundstage?

Thanks
PS. I do plan on putting a door at the bottom of the stairs in the future. So that will help stop sound from traveling upstairs.

The wall beside the EP600 is Stonington Beige. The rear wall and the wall jutting out from the left side is Great Desert. These are from ICI Paints.

Projected floor plan I designed for the home theater. Speakers are highlighted in red. Recommendations especially regarding furniture placement would be very much appreciated. Furniture is solely hypothetical. I think a sectional and chair or sofa would be best. The support beam makes furniture placement difficult.

Please help fellow Axiomites!!

I can see how your room is very similar to mine.

I think it's a wonderful layout but, as you probably already know, it's not optimized for audio since your seating areas are away from the "acoustic centre". You may want to think about rotating the TV/speakers/seating areas by -90 degrees so that the TV and fronts are along the wall where your couch is presently located. Are you wiring for 7.1?

Yes I am wiring for 7.1. Would the "acoustic center" he approximately 10 ft. from the television?

Anyone have a steel I-beam one hand?

Yes. Right about where that first post is. In my room, I decided to set up just ahead of the post. I thought about getting rid of it but it wouldn't have bought me anything (except nicer pictures I suppose) because I would have had to space my speakers further apart and they would have fouled with the fireplace.

You too could probably set up in front of that post if you had a flat-mount TV and could change your couch from L-shaped to straight-back.

It will run you about $12K to get rid of both of those posts.

What about a central post with an I beam that extends out to the present telepost positions.?

During the original renovations I questioned my contractor about installing a I-beam from the back post to the front wall (above TV) and he said it will cost at least $2000 just for the beam. As you can see in my diagram its approximately a 20 foot span.

Also, about painting. I am seriously considering painting the walls and ceiling the same color. Anyone else do this?

In my books the elimination of just one the posts would have been worth it. Even if it meant a new post in the middle of the room, it still would have freed up those 2 more critical areas.
