Absolutely the best western ever made and the best movie I have seen in recent memory. This is a must-see. Every scene is perfect, no second of film is wasted, every actor is perfectly casted, every word carries weight and meaning. My wife and I found it terrific.

Wow. I am out of touch. Haven't heard about the movie until you mentioned it. Saw the trailer now and it looks great. I'll wait until it comes out on DVD, but I look forward to seeing it.

I completely forgot about that movie--haven't been watching tv much and miss out on the trailers. I love a good western and this one looks good. Maybe I'll drag my pops out to go see it.

Last time I tried to smuggle popsicles into a theater, I ended up with really messy pockets. I tend to stick to bottled beverages now.

Your tale (not "tail") reminds me of the beer commercial in which the guy smuggles some bottled beer into the opera with dire consequences. Why, when I see that commercial, do I always think of TomTuttle?

Saw 3:10 to Yuma on Blu-ray last night and was wowed with picture quality and sound. I got a lot of L/R gunshot SFX but not a lot of surround. I really need to calibrate my system. Peter, do you feel like a technical assistance road trip, by any chance? I can get you fine beerrrrr ... (dangles bottle opener)

Jack, it was kind of you to think of me. Since I am predisposed to draught beer, the whole smuggling thing doesn't really work for me.
We saw 3:10 to Yuma last night. I'd echo Mojo's enthusiasm for the production values, casting and script. I did not, however, find the story itself as compelling as I would have liked.
I do think that this is a movie that will continue to resonate with me for a while.

It was a very different western. I wasn't expecting that.

I have been lurking in the forum for a while (plan to order in the next month).
Anyway, saw this thread and its a movie I feel quite passionately about. I hated it. Honestly the worst movie ending I have ever seen. I thought the acting was average, but the script was terrible.

Open Range is the best western ever. Get it right, dude. I'll fight you about it, too.

I enjoyed both Silverado and Unforgiven more than Open Range or 3:10.
But - really - The Big Lebowski is the best western ever. Out of genre, you say? Tumbleweeds, set in California, Sam Elliott wearing a cowboy hat. FTW!

I enjoyed 3:10 but I guess I'm into happy endings so it wasn't my favorite western. What's up with Hollywood nowadays, have they heard of a happy ending. The Mist, No Country, 3:10, I Am Legend, Into the Wild, Cloverfield, There Will be Blood, Before the Devil Knows Your Dead, all good movies with crappy endings. How many times am I gonna have to watch Enchanted to feel better.

I'm with you, Michael.
This is "entertainment", right? Is a little residual joy too much to ask? I mean, I don't WANT to watch High Grant or Drew Barrymore, but sometimes I just need some cinematic prozak.

3:10 was a good western and I enjoyed it, but hard to say it was the best of all time.

Juno was great, that's one of the few exceptions that I've liked the ending in recent releases.

damn.. not been watching many movies for the last 6 months, waiting to get my home theater. You've gotta put big SPOILER warnings up before you give away the ending to some of the biggest movies of the last year! Guess I can cancel all the stuff I bought this week lol

I thought 3:10 was just Ok. The acting was good. The sets were awesome - very believeable. I also liked the supporting villian. Very cool character. However, it felt short and a bit disconnected. I don't know, maybe Russell Crowe played the bad guy too "nice," but I didn't buy that he was this ruthless killer so much. Especially when he decided that he was going to help Christian Bale's character sort of complete his mission.
Maybe if they had more indians, or a more believeable gun fight at the end of the movie. It's like they conscripted a bunch of storm troopers (who aim poorly) to play the extras out to get CHristian Bale. I just think the danger feel could have been amped up here a bit.
On a scale of 1 to 10, I'd give a 6, but will never watch it again. "6" because it was a "good" movie, but not "great" and no scenes stuck out at me that said, Oh, you gotta watch this again. I've seen better Westerns (Tombstone, even Young Guns for sheer entertainment), though.

Spoiler warnings are always a good idea.
On the other hand, I probably wasn't ever going to see the movie anyway. No worries.
