I'm very interested in the Mt 22's, but i can't audition them from california. I don't want to spend $100-$150 to ship them back if I dont like them. So, after doing a lot of reading/listening I understand that the low end of the Mt22's is weak and you really need a subwoofer. I was told that my old KEF's, for example, have a much better base response. If i have to buy a subwoofer I'm concerned that it sort of cancels out the super bargin price of these speakers. But maybe not - am i asking way too much of a $400US speaker. I'd really appreciate hearing from those of you who have not gone completely off your medication.

I am without a subwoofer right now, and I almost prefer that way for music, it just sounds great to me this way...I cant explain, just what I like I guess. For movies, well, my SVS sub should be here tomorrow =)

I wouldn't say "weak" at all. I'd say it rolls off very nicely. That said, I would highly recommend a subwoofer. You won't get a better sounding system for $900 (assuming an SVS or Hsu sub). Or you buy M60s for $800. There you go! Remember, bass volume is not nearly everything. It's gotta be clean, baby!

It seems like there are plenty of people on the board that live in CA. I'm sure one of them would be willing to have you over for an audition.

Check you hotmail e-mail. I sent you a message about coming over to my house in Oakland to audition my M22s.

I own M22;s and will very soon be bringing them back into my life (they're currently boxed up as we are two people living in a 240 sq feet apartment with thin walls).

I love them, even on their own. Yes, the bass is 'weak' compared to a speaker that has, say, a seperate woofer. But it's tight and rolls off very, very well. I was in fact a little surprised at how much bass they give consdering the 5 1/4 inch woofers. A sub is recommended, but not absolutely necessary for most music.

The M22's have such a wonderful soundstage and are so clean and clear you can't go wrong.
