Has anyone ever seen a graph for the QS8? There are none on Axiom's Web site. I know it is a bit different because there is no real "on axis", but I was wondering if there was some typical dip/up in the curve.

I am asking that because this is the first weekend I can spend time tweaking and I already used the built-in 7-band/7-channel equalizer of my processor to compensate for the little variations in the VP-150 charts and M80 and I got a little unexpected improvement.

I would like to also do it for the QS-8, but I suspect I will have to wait for my new SPL meter for the back speakers. Am I right?

*Q Series graph note: It's impossible to do accurate anechoic measurements of quadpolar, dipolar, or bipolar speakers. If you do room measurements, those are only accurate for the specific room you put the QS8s in, because their output is so dependent on the particular reflections generated in that room. So you couldn't extrapolate from those measurements to other rooms. - Alan Lofft

That's what I thought. Well, this is just a postponement until the meter gets back in stock!

Eric,

Where exactly is this equalizer that you have? Is it per channel?

I would recommend not using any EQ in your AVR to alter the Axiom frequency, but that is just me. \:\)

Yes, per channel. Actually, it is per logical channel (front, center, surround, back) for 7-band and then they have a 5-band for sub.

The adjustments I made were minimal. I took the curve supplied and adjusted where the dip was at least 2db for a significant portion of the band.

Settings I have used are:

Numbers are presented: Band (M80, VP150)

63 (0,0)
160 (+1,0)
400 (-1,0)
1000 (0,0)
2500 (0,+1)
6300 (-1,-1)
16000 (0,-2)

Results are: VP150 completely smooth now (a little harhness was there even for TV shows). M80 "seems" also a little bit more transparent, but the most important is that it does not sound worse!

Is this equalizer in your receiver? Is it the Onkyo THX receiver that you were raving about?

Most likely your room acoustics or placement is to blame. \:\)

I just think he needs an A1400. All CTOs should have A1400s.
