I'm assuming those just have a built in line doubler as there's no DVD content at 1080i yet.

Yes, it upconverts to 1080i signal via DVI. I haven't had the chance to see one yet, I'm seriously considering purchasing one since my TV has a DVI input. Although reports on AVSForums say the picture is outstanding compared to 480i progressive scan DVD players.

That would be 480p.
i = interlaced
p = progressive
If you wind up buying one, post your results.

BigWill - watched Solaris last night and reporting back as promised. I did not see the phenomenon you described on the spaceship scene - looked smooth on my setup.
