Honestly, I'm not sure where the dividing lines are myself. I just know that when I hear the dimensions, and calculate the cubic footage, I usually can give a reasonable assessment of what is required.

For example my room is 11.5'W x 18'L x 8'H for a total of 1656 cubic feet. That falls somewhere in the upper small to lower medium sized room. But, my listening area is only 11.5'W x 8'L x 8'H. That's the only space my speakers need to cover. That is definitely small (particularly compared to SirQuack's room \:o ) .

It's a bit different when considering subwoofers. You have to take into account all the space when trying to figure out how much subwoofer you need. It is generally accepted that in order to get pants-flapping bass out of a sub, it needs to "pressurize" the entire area. My room is open to a 10' x 10' dining area, and an approximately 4' x 5' foyer. That brings the total cubic footage to 2616 cubic feet. That's still not a huge space, but it's not small either. Happily my EP500 does the job.

Maybe others who have a more concrete concept of small, medium, and larger spaces will chime in.

EDIT: Whoops! Terzaghi already did. \:\)

The room is 20'x18'x8 with a small dining area off of that. So if I got the 60's with the QS8 and the VP100 and a EP500 it should be good

m80's are the way to go, but as mentioned above, you'll need a different receiver or external amp.

Receiver: Yamaha RX-V2200
Main: Axiom m80
CC: Axiom VP150
Surround: Axiom QS8
Sub: SVS PC13-Ultra

Race:
I would probably spend a bit more and get the VP150 over the VP100. The good news is that if you're looking to get a whole system, you save 5%, so that would make up the difference. Further, if you were willing to go with factory outlet, you would save another 10% for a total of 15%....

I second the VP150, I have both and the 150 likes it louder. The Factory outlet is also the way to go if you don't mind the odd little mark. My M80s have a very minor mark at the bottom left on the 45 deg chamfer and the other I really haven't noticed anything yet, but I have been too busy listening to them rather than looking at them, as it should be\:\)
