How much powerful of an amplifier do I need for the M3T1 speakers?

We designed the M3s to be a very versatile, very efficient loudspeaker. They can be powered at anywhere from 10 to 125 watts. This makes them a good all around speaker, suitable for home theater or stereo use.

That is a very wide range. What do you think is OPTIMUM?

OPTIMUM is really a personal parameter. What we need to determine is - what is optimum for you? Please let us know your room size and your dynamic preference i.e. do you like dynamic music or movies at high volume or not? With this information we can reccomend an optimum power level for you, assuming an average amount of dynamic head room from your amp.

If you're sitting in the front row of a concert, classical music can range from 75dBC to 110dBC (headroom of 35dB). I estimated these figures from a study that was conducted in the UK.

You can use this calculator to figure out the power that you need.

I entered a distance of 2m, a desired level of 75dB, M3 sensitivity of 96dB (because you will have two of them) and headroom of 35dB. This calculator says that you need 100 Watts.

If your room is "quiet" and your hearing is in good order, 100 Watts should be sufficient. You may be able to get away with less depending on your room acoustics.

well, since i already have 75w amp and m3ti is going to ring my ball tomorrow(can't wait!) , actually my concern is kind of more about how i should place my m3ti in my tiny room to make those sound/vocal scale(=image?) more realistic/more sence!

ps: with the calculator, i filled Desired/Spk sens/Headroom dB and Amp watt, then tried to get the "distance". But it came out "NaNC" ?

You'll have to experiment with their placement but toe them in so that the tweeters point at your ears (or maybe slightly in front of you or behind you). Also don't place them the same distance away from the front and side walls.

As for the calculator, I'm not sure it was designed to work that way.

Mark, the most basic point would be to try to have the M3s separated by about the same distance as your distance from them; then toe them in slightly so that the tweeters point at your ears. Another point is to position them, if possible, so that that distances from the M3 mid-woofer center to the floor and each of the walls are different from each other, so that the boundary effects don't pile up at one frequency.

That calculator is rather simplified and appears to just deduct 6dB for each doubling of distance, and that actually isn't the whole story, since room effects have to be considered. You should have plenty of power, so just listen and enjoy the music.

Yes, the equilateral triangle spacing is an excellent suggestion.

Sign up for free websites on the internet for photo hosting like photobucket.com . Once you upload your photos to your photobucket account, you then just copy the image take for that photo into your post. The image tags start with img and end with /img.
