I just placed an order today for the M60's. I am in the final stages of completing my HT (carpet installation on Thursday) and will be putting in the electronics over the weekend.

My receiver is the Pioneer VSX-47TX and will be setting the room up in 7.1. I am starting with the M60's for the front. Provided I like the sound, I was planning on ordering the VP150 for the center, the Qs8's for the surrounds and the M3's for the rears.

Two questions:

1) Any opinons on this configuation, or would you recommend any changes? Particularly, is there much of a difference in using the M3's in the rear versus going to the M22's?

2) Any sub recommendations? I have seen comments on the SVS's and the HSU's. Based on this proposed configuration is there one more suited than the other.

In case this matters, my room dimensions are approximately 18' x 28'.

Any comments would be appreciated.

First off let me say you stole my bf's nickname.

Secondly, the M2i's may be the best rear speakers for you. The M22 and M2 will better match the sound of the M60's than the M3 will. The M22's are quite large to be used simply as rears in a 7.1 configuration.

I have the M60's, VP150, QS8's, and M2i's and LOVE it.

Is your room completely closed off, or are there open sides leading to other rooms?

In either case you could easily get away with using the Hsu VTF-2 for a sub, but since your room is on the larger side, I'd go with the larger VTF-3. If WAF is a factor, the VTF-3 in rosewood. I have the VTF-2 and it's an amazing subwoofer. Amazing, amazing, amazing...the VTF-3 sounds exactly the same as the VTF-2, but can go a tad lower, and fill a larger room. (Though to be honest my VTF-2 can kick my ass in my 23x17x9 room)

I've never listened to the M3's or M2's in person, but I understand that the M2's will timbre-match better with the M60/VP150/QS8 than the M3's will.

I personally recommend the Hsu VTF-3 sub if you are looking at a box design.

[EDIT -- well, Craig beat me on this in every count!]

Thanks for the comments. Spiffnme - As to your question, the back of the room opens to an adjacent room (another 250+ square feet in that area).

As to the rosewood on the HSU sub, how would this look if I am going with the Boston Cherry on the Axioms? If significantly different, would I be better off just getting black?

I wouldn't be a perfect match, but it would still look very nice. The black is just that, a big black box. It's really up to you if you want the better looking sub. They'll sound the same.

Great choices all around - receiver and speakers! I am running the M60s, VP150, and QS8s with a Pioneer 45TX and love the system. Incredible clarity and bass from the M60s, yet for home theater I add an HSU VTF-2. Room is 13 x 22 and the sound more than fills the room. Vocals, Classical, Broadway all shine on this system, not to mention great Home Theater.
