He is a good guy nonetheless and I have learned a bit from him. Hopefully he is not affected by the fires out west.

No doubt he is a good guy and I enjoyed his "cyber company" as well. I too wish him well and whole heartedly wish that he would come back.

He would probably still be here if you and Karlile and 2X6spds and pmbuko and cblake hadn't ganged up on him in that free-for-all "Hear no evil: another essay" thread.

I am of course kidding about the "ganging" up thing. I thought it was a great discusion until he took it to heart. After all "if ya can't stand the heat.....". It was kind of odd though, that no one came to his rescue in that thread.

I stayed away from that thread like the plague. Raging flame threads generally don't keep my interest.

Now hold on just one minute! I just reread all of my responses on that thread, most of which were inane comments on tangents that people went off on. I don't think I ever directly replied to Chess. My main real comment was the Carl Sagan essay, which could (and was) have been used by either side. If I was "ganging up" on anyone, it was pmbuko! And he's used to it from me!

Yeah, I stayed away from it too. I didn't have the guts to get into it. But do ya' really think Chess was being flamed?

I think it keeps a board from becoming stagnate when things heat up with some disagreements. That is as long as no one gets bloody!

mwc,

I take offense at your assumption that I helped drive chess away. The last thing we need here is a bunch of finger-pointing. He and I had a pretty active private message exchange -- both before and after that thread exploded. I always treated him with respect -- and if you re-read parts of that thread, you'll see that I did attempt to come to his rescue, in a manner of speaking.

Yeah, I too very much miss him here... While I know that chess knows I am always on his side when it comes to objectivism/subjectivism debates, I still feel guilty of making this post in a light-hearted manner...

pmbuko,
Ok! ok! Relax man. Calm down and take a deep breath. I didn't think you would have a cow over this. I didn't mean to offend and I even said in my post that I was kidding. I whole heartedly apologize to you - and your gang (just KIDDING about the gang).

Who said anything about a cow? I was simply defending myself from an accusation I though was unfounded. (This happens to be my BIGGEST BUTTON, which you unwittingly pushed.)

I'll be sure to litter my posts with smiley faces to show that I am not mad at you and will not hold a grudge. Please forgive my reaction.

OK...I went back and read that entire thread. Phew...dang! If THAT scared Chess away, he's mighty thin skinned. That was TAME compared to some of the threads I've read on other boards.

I honestly didn't mean to lob a granade. In my mind, my comment about you and saturn and Kcarlile and 2X6spds and cblake were in jest and I fully know that you all had nothing to do with driving chess away.

And if I knew how to put those smiley faces in the posts I would.

Did we just hug and make-up?

Thats what I thought so too. Either something must have happened that prevents him from going on here, or something made him think that it is not worth his time to be on here. Anyone know if his location is close to the fires in BC?

In the last PM I received from chess, he said he had to write up an important paper for his toxicology "day job," which he had been procrastinating as much as he could (yup, he is just like me!!! HAHAHA...). I believe he did mention when the deadline is/was, but don't remember the date. I hope he is in the middle of it right now, and comes back as soon as the task is finished.

I agree. I miss someone posting "rolling my eyes" or "tsk..tsk.. Saturn" on some of my absurd convictions. Hehe....

Thanks to a friend for sending me this link.
I did not know my departure would create such a mystery. Some here already know where I’ve gone.
Perhaps I can quell the rumour mongering.
No, I am not affected by the fires out west.
No, I am not dead and thank you but no, I’m not in a coma.
No, my computer is working just fine, thank heaven.
Yes I did leave and will be gone indefinitely or at least for some months.
Yes, I was getting tired of dealing with disrespectful, sarcastic and paranoid (JohnK’s word) posts that serve no purpose other than picking fights in the forums and no, I am not referring to cblake as mwc suggested. I think Ken and Peter know where they stand (those hateful little buggers always stirring the pot… ).
Yes it all does make one think whether it is worth their time being here and so i decided that for a time, my efforts were best spent elsewhere. I believe John_Henderson may have given up as well based on the tone of one of his last, fed-up sounding posts which is really too bad. He had some great, innovative ideas and working models for speaker mounts.

Aside from that,
Yes, I was spending wAYYYY too much time on the forums (even sushi is STILL playing catch up to my ridiculous post total).
Yes, I am extraordinarily busy with research right now. (It is a 12 year temporal and spatial study on contaminants in the food webs and abiotic components of 3 sub-arctic lakes so needless to say, the database is huge and stats are hell).
Yes, I do have two research papers due in December, 2 conferences, one this month in Ottawa and one in November (in Austin, Texas at that) as well as a personal vacation trip planned sometime in mid-October. (For those who have never written a journal paper, consider it as that big term paper you have due BUT you CANNOT get anything less than an A+ grade otherwise you write it again. Also keep in mind it is being ‘graded’ by no less than 4 professors not just 1, so the papers are not exactly a last minute weekend project in the library kind of thing.)
We also recently just finished putting in new carpeting, kitchen lino and have yet to do some concrete patching and exterior house painting this fall.
Yes my hockey season is also gearing up and i average 3 or 4 games a week which consumes a fair number of evenings.
No we do not yet have any kids other than 2 dogs and a cat. The horse was put down last year.
Yes our audio enthusiasm has continued and we recently bought some Tannoy Definition D700s for the upstairs living area.
Yes we do plan on possibly buying some Parasound Halo products to drive them in the future although Odyssey amps are also being considered, but no for now they are not running on the Parasound Halo equipment but instead on a Coda amp and Phillips preamp borrowed from a good friend.
No, I have not really glanced at the forums over the past month but yes, I am still answering private messages. The messenging setup sends me a direct email telling me when I have a PM and at those times, I come back to login.
Any further queries can be directed to me via PM or to my newly appointed secretary and “we-have-no-opposing-opinions” super friend……..Saturn.
Haha, just kidding Saturn but I promise more ruckus sometime in the future. In the meantime, you will just have to put up with sushi’s crazy although amazingly accurate information.

{sigh}
So much for my lunch hour....

Yeah Sushi is too acurate. I can't find any pinholes to prod with my pinky.
When you do have a chance to "break in" the D700 I would definitely like to hear what you got to say about em. I already have an itch for something like those or the LB1 or OB1.
