It seems with this Onkyo TX-SR805 I notice some A/V sync problems on different sources. It's fixable with the Sync Delay option. However I'm always second guessing myself on whether or not it's as perfect as it's going to get.
Any good techniques or a specific part in a movie? Maybe a special DVD you can purchase that assists with this? Watching lips is hard to tell.

That is one of the known problems with the onkyo 805. I don't think onkyo has indicated that they have any plans to fix the issue either.

Well this 805 demo might not last long anyway. I just overheated it apparently. It just shut down in the middle of some music.

Yep, known problem with the new Onkyo receivers, 705,805,875,905. No fix. They run hot so they need plenty of airflow.

I would reccomend you look at the new denon models. Youc an get a 2308, 2808, or 3808 (depending on your budget) well below MSRP from 6ave.com (If they still have the low prices). You have to call them to get the low prices.

Piling on here... I was in the same boat as jbsengineer but with the prices you can get from 6ave (I confirmed you could get it as recently as last week), you can get the Denon 3808ci for not much more than the Onkyo, and it solves the most annoying problems with the 805 (or 875 in my case, which was my original choice).
For my personal setup (DirecTV HD-DVR), there was no question the Denon was the better choice as the lip synch issues and audio dropouts with this DirecTV unit / Onkyo combo were absolute deal-killers.

6ave.com says $1599 on the website. you mean if you call you can get it for much cheaper?

$1098 with free shipping and full warranty.
The 2808 is like 850, and I think the 2308 is 699.
I bought my 3808 from them and it came in about 6 days, double boxed and in great shape.

The main sales guy who sells the Denons there is Stephen: Call him direct at 848-248-3498. They try to upsell you on a 6year warranty and 'expedited processing' for an extra $200. Without expedited shipping, it takes 3-4 weeks to ship if I remember right. However, for that much off retail, seemed like it was worth waiting.

You know, the expedite portion sounded like BS to me and I suspected shipping time was going to be similar regardless whether I bought the warranty. I decided not to push it as I had to purchase the 3808 somewhere else (I had a store credit to use).
