I am planning on upgrading from my Yamaha HTR-5740. I am currently looking to either go for ONKYO TX-SR605 or Yamaha RX-V 661'. I am wondering if someone could help me pick better of the two. Onkyo has TRUE HD DTS and TRUE Dolby HD while RX-V661 does not, but Yamaha has its signature DSPs. While I like Yamaha better, this one feature of Onkyo (True HD sound) is making me lean in that direction. Can someone help me with it.
Thanks bilgirami

Buy a Denon Seriously pick the one that has the features and price that better serves you.

What ever you choose I would call the folks at 6ave.com and ask for a price quote over the phone. You will probably find something significantly cheaper than the listed MSRP value. ( i know this is true with the denon models, and I am sure that it is true with the others as well.)

Syed, welcome. Yes, as Rick said, you have to make your own decision as to which features are most important to you. You might also note that the 605 has a simplified version of the Audyssey automatic calibration and room equalization system(the 2EQ), which many believe has an edge over the system in the 661. The basic amplification capabilities of the two are quite similar and shouldn't be a basis for your decision.

Looks like Yamaha has an RX-V663 due out soon. By the way, I have no idea about the site I linked to--just came up at the top of Google.

yeah, I think the 661 is an older moldel that has been around for a little while (probably still less than a year old tho). speaking of 661... I have 661 posts Maybe that is a sign.. I say go for the 661 after all, or wait until I get two more posts and then get the new 663

Make your decision based on which reciever has the most features which you want at your price point.

That depends on what features you want and the price point. 1908, 2308, 2808, any of them should do the job. The 3808 is really slick but is over $1000. Many of us on here have the 3808 and really like.
