My HT consists of:

M22ti (front left and right)
QS8 (surrounds)
VP150 (center)
HSU-VTF2 (sub)

I'm trying to configure the Triple Cross-Over feature on the HK


In the HK manual they refer to frequency in terms of Hz, while on the Axiom website they refer to is as K. Are these terms interchangeable?

The HK defaults to 100Hz for the front left, front right and center channel.

With the M22ti should I set the cross over to 60Hz? With the VP150 should I set it to 85? With the QS8's should I set it to 95? How about the sub?

I saw a few people with the same HT system so hopefully this will be easy.

My setup is identical to yours except I have the M60s instead of the M22s. I've got my fronts set to LARGE and the sub set to 60Hz, which forces the M60s to be set at the same point with the H/K 525. I believe the settings are in 20Hz increments, I've got the VP150 at 80Hz and the QS8s at 100Hz.

You may want to play with setting the fronts to SMALL and using overlapping frequencies for the sub and the M22s and see what sounds best. Play around, every room affects the output drastically, so try my suggestion and others that will surely follow and get a 'feel' for your room. Have fun, you've got a great system.

It is, SL. Set all speakers small, all crossovers at 80hz and bypass internal VTF-2 crossover by setting switch "out".

I have your setup, except the sub. I have all speakers set to small, with the x-over at 80 fro all. the sub is set at 80 also, with the sub x-over turned up all the way letting the AVR do the x-over work. So far this setup sounds best to my ears. The triple x-over, as I understand it, is used when you have speakers that are not sonically matched. I believe that yours are...

it isn't so much sonically matched, but more so for speakers with different bass capabilities. I do not know all the -3db bass points for the speakers mentioned, but say the M22 goes down to 60hz, the 150 goes to 80hz, and the QS8's to 100hz. You can then set the crossover according to each speaker's capability. It is a great feature and allows you to use each speaker to its capaicity, rather than setting the crossover to the least capable speaker.

There is no one single "right" crossover setting even for the identical set of speakers -- the best setting will differ depending on the room, listening habits, and personal preferences.

Personally, I would always start out with the SMALL/80Hz setting all across, regardless of the bass capability of each speaker (unless yours are those tiny Bose cubes ). After carefully optimizing the speaker placements and calibrating the system with this textbook (THX-standard) starting point, I would then "live" with the setting at least for a week, so that I would be very familiar with the sound quality. Only after this, I would start tweeking the setting further.
