I just got the VP150 Center Speaker. I want to complete my Axiom surround sound speaker setup. I was going to do this with four M22’s and the EP350. My question is, would it be wiser to get the QS8’s for the back speakers rather than the M22’s? I was thinking of the M22’s because they have to go in the corners of the room and I am afraid that the QS8’s will not fit right or not project the sound right since they will be in the corner? Eventually I want to get the QS8’s for the sides to achieve the 7.1 sound, but for now, I am only doing the 5.1. Here a couple of pictures of my current set up and why I have to stick to the corners for speaker placement. I just want to make sure I will not do myself a disservice by putting M22’s in the back corners instead of the QS8’s. Thoughts? Front of Room Back of Room

Are you gonna be going to 7.1 in this same room? Because you'd be better off with QS8s on sides [5.1 is generally to either side of the listening seats, 7.1 adds rears for discrete rear sound effects (which are still uncommon). You'd be just as well off with M2s as M22s. Not much is really req'd back there] and then add QS to either side of the dining room doorway for 7.1 (if ever). Even if you need to mount the rears/sides in the corners, I'd think the QS would work, but you'd still need the mount as they obviously wouldn't be flush mounted.
M80s/VP160/QS8s/EP350; M22s; M3s.

I like all the kid stuff - one of our rooms looks exactly the same way. I think the quadrupole helps to have more dispersion for the surround effect. I am not sure how strong of an effect this is - without having done the proper A vs B comparo. Lots of surrround systems use "basic" two channel speakers (like the M22 or M3) for all the satellites. My guess is that using the M22 would be fine. You can always return them if it sounds like crap (although highly unlikely) and get the QS8.
Side question: What type of speaker wire are you running? It looks like it is behind the wall. Is it CL-2 or standard? Just curious as I go to set my rear speakers up.

I'd use QS8s, hands down.

Another thing to consider would be to mount your front M22's upside down when you get them- this wil bring the tweeters closer to your ears a bit

yep, for 5.1 whatever speaker you use should be to the sides, the behind.

Thanks everyone for the responses. I'm still torn. I'll have to do some measuring and more thinking.
Hammer: Ha, ya, the wife just found out I posted those pictures with the messy kid stuff everywhere. She wasn't happy. Ha.
For speaker wire I used Monster Cable XPHP-CI, but ran out for the last speaker and used Monster Cable XPMS. I know it was over the top for what I currently have, but I plan to go for broke in installments. Meaning, I want to get a super nice reciever like a Denon AVR-4308CI to push that power to the Axioms.

You should have saved your money and bought your cable from monoprice.com

QS8 mounted any where is an improvement in envelopment for surrounds and you can buy Axiom 12 gauge wire cheaper than Monnster.

I mounted my QS8s in the rear corners, they sound great.

QS8s, they are by far the best surround I have ever heard.

Regardless of where you put the speakers for a "5.1" setup, your 4th and 5th speaker should be hooked up to the "side" or "surround" jacks on your receiver and not the "rear" or "back" jacks. When you add your 6th and 7th speakers, they will be setup as the back speakers.
I know many here have their 5.1 with the surrounds behind them for the simple fact they had no place to mount them. For someone like myself with no side walls anywhere in my room, I bought the Axiom speaker stands so I could put them on both sides of the couch.
Either way, I'd go with the QS8's.

About 6 ft to each side and 1 ft behind, the couch is against the rear wall. They are mounted on plywood backer boards attached at 45 deg across the corner.

If it helps I also have my QS8s in the rear corners but much farther back than DG56, about 5 feet. They also sound great.
