Not sure any of you have seen this test before. I am in the 98% group ...

________________________________________________________________

At the end of this message, you are asked a question.

Answer it immediately. Don't stop and think about it.

Just say the first thing that pops into your mind.

This is a fun 'test'... AND kind of spooky at the same time! Give it a try, then e-mail it around (including back to me) and you'll see how many people you know fall into the same percentage as you. Be sure to put in the subject line if you are among the 98% or the 2%. You'll understand what that means after you finish taking the test'.

Now... just follow the instructions as quickly as possible.

Do not go to the next calculation before you have finished the previous one..

You do not ever need to write or remember the answers, just do it using your mind.

You'll be surprised.

Start:

How much is:

15 + 6

3 + 56

89+ 2

12 + 53

75 + 26

25 + 52

63 + 32

I know! Calculations are hard work, but it's nearly over..

Come on, one more!

123 + 5

QUICK! THINK ABOUT A COLOR AND A TOOL!

Scroll further to the bottom....

A bit more...

You just thought about
red hammer
didn't you?

If this is not your answer, you are among 2% of people who have a different, if not abnormal mind.

98% of the folks would answer a red hammer while doing this exercise.

If you do not believe this, pass it around and you'll see.

Be sure to put in the subject line if you are among the 98% or the 2% and send to everyone, including the person that sent it to you.

So I came up with 1/2 the answer. Does that make me 2%, 98% since I got half of it, or somewhere in between?

Er... giving half the answer might have spoiled the test for others....

I got it half too...

Somehow I suspect that this is not a valid psychological test. ;\)

And, BTW, Maarrrrrrrk, you gave it awaaaaaaay! Do I hear a "D'Oh!!!" coming from the northeast?

I'm gonna try to obscure my answer by blabbing on and on for a while so that someone reading the preview of this in the "recent posts" section won't see. At least this time I have an excuse to blab on!

I had seen this one before, and I forget what I said then.

This time, however, I got blue screwdriver.

Looks like our new friend rick240 and I are separated at birth.

Free association norms (http://w3.usf.edu/FreeAssociation/AppendixA/index.html)

indicate that Hammer is the most common free association word for "tool" ("box" and "work" are second and third; screwdriver is 4th).

and that Red and Blue are the most common associations for color.

The arithmetic gets you into an "answer quickly" frame of mind, so you don't slowly come up with "turquoise awl".

I'm a "Red Hammer" kind of guy.

I'm sure that is exactly the point of the numbers. Not much more than smoke and mirrors for what is probably the most common answer. Doubt it is 98% correct too, but maybe 65%?

Since Mark gave it away, I'm another in the 'half' catagory. I said red but it was a red drill.

And no, it wasn't a hammer drill.
