How do you guys feel about getting a denon 3808 receiver from a non authorized online dealer. Is it too risky? I saw one for about $970 New + about $50 for shipping.

Thanks,
playitloud

What's the worst a non-warranty repair might cost?

Or to quote Dirty Harry

"Do ya feel lucky?"

If your Blu-ray player will do the advanced audio codec decoding and send PCM I'd rather get a brand new Marantz SR8001 from Second Act with full 3 year warranty (same price range).

For a couple hundred($1098 I believe was the price) more you can get it from 6ave.com and the factory warranty is good as they are an authorized dealer. You just have to call them and ask for the price.

yah- if you have to pay $50 shipping I would tell them to get lost. Just pay $1098 (which includes shipping) from 6ave.com. You have to call them to get the price b/c their website shows the MSRP.

I bought mine from 6ave and got it in 5 days in perfect condition.

6ave is an authorized dealer for everything they sell.

I also bought my 3808 from 6ave.com for 1098 shipped. I ordered Monday and had it Thursday. The box looked beat to hell, but it turned out it was just an outside box, the receiver and it's original box were in perfect condition. You definitely have to call for the price. The first time I called I asked and he told me 1199, but I called back, got a different guy, and he said 1098 shipped. They ask where you heard the price from...don't rat us out \:\)

And in a disgusting display of useless memory, if you call the main number and push 1, it will ask you for an extension and the guy I talked to was named Mike at extension 8474.

To answer your question, no way would I do it with the difference in price for an authorized dealer so minimal. I got mine for <$1200 from an authorized dealer as well (AVS Forum's shop).

Check Crutchfield scratch and dent. I got a 4308 for $1930 there and I couldn't find anything wrong with it. The box was slightly damaged but the receiver was perfect. The receiver was manufactured months before I got it which I could tell by the serial number but I did the bios update and it is up to date now. Crutchfield is an authorized dealer so I get the full warranty.

You might also check ecost (authorized Denon etailer). They handle the sales of the units Denon refurbishes and at great savings. I'v purchased three uniyts from them and my friends several more.. Stock comes & goes quickly based on whatever Denon ships them, so if you decide to buy from them, don't dawdle.

Several threads reference ecost & buying experiences here. They show the price of the 4308 @ $1399 and the 3808 @ $799, but they are both out of stock right now.

Just a few 3808s for a couple of days 'til people discovered them. There is really no rhyme or reason to when stock shows up. Probably when somebody looks around at what is stacked up in the shop and realizes they should send some stuff to ecost.

The reason I mentioned it now is that Denon sold a TON of the 3808 and a bunch of the 4308 at Christmas. In reading the owner's threads on AVS, it looks like there were a fair number of returns. Matter of fact, the main reason appeared to be operator error.

In any event, the big numbers that were purchased at Christmas should yield some stock soon as Denon works through the repairs.

If you wait long enough maybe the new Sherwood Newcstles might even be out. They are supposed to have the same upscaler as the Onkyos but have the same rock solid power of the Denon's. Only they have been continuously moved back in regards to release dates.

Any while idea as to what is the time frame for these new SN? I am supposed to get my Axioms speakers today. M80's, VP150 and Q8s. They will be hooked up to my old Onkyo in the meantime

Thanks guys for your advice - this forum is great!. I went ahead and orderded the Denon 3808 from 6ave for $1098 delivered. And no, i did not gave you guys in. Since I got my speakers last night, I couldn't wait for this new SN to be out. Oh...I gotta tell you! Those speakers on the HGC are so beautiful that makes everything else in the house look very cheap.

Congrats on the purchase. I have been bouncing back and forth between keeping my Onkyo 805, upgrading to the 80s and getting them their own amp, or upgrading to the 80s and getting the Denon like yours.

Someone in another thread thought you had an old Onkyo as well. Did you test anything with the Onkyo at all. Also, just off hand, when you called 6ave.com for the price on the Denon did you just call the toll free number on the front of there page or did you have to call another number to get the quote.

I called the main 800 number, and talked to a sales guy named David I think. I just said "Hey, I saw the Denon's MSRP on your site, I know you have to post that, but nobody pays MSRP. What's the best price you can give me?" and he said "1098 shipped" and I said "OKAY!"

Omahablu,

No, I have not had a chance to try my Onkyo on them yet. I hope I will have a chance this weeknend. To tell you the truth, I was not ready to order the speakers yet. I am remodeling the house right now and it is one hell of a mess right now, but I wanted to take advantage of the promotion axiom had with the HG cherry finish. I am glad I did. I don't know how the regular cherry finish looks, but these HG are exceptional. I e-mailed Alan from axiom about the differences between the HG synthetic and the real wood ones and he told me he couldn't tell the difference...he had to actully smell them to tell the difference. I belive him now. These speakers will be the nicest piece of furniture I will have on my living room. I don't know if this helps you or hurts you on your decision. I know I had a hard time.
On 6 ave. deal. I e-mailed their live chat thing on the web and I mentioned that I had read on some online forums about this deal and I also mentioned that I could get this reciever for about $1050 from a non-authorized dealer. Scott replied back and said that they could honor the $1098. So called him up to place an order. His ext is 8632. I think all can do that. Good luck.

Yes, when I am done with everything I will post a picture. That may be a littl while.

FYI,

After reading this forum, I just went to 6ave.com so that I can purchase a 3808. The price states $1599.99. I called and they gave it to me for 1099.99 shipped. I also applied for the card for 12 months no intrest, but that is up to you of course. However, he asked me if I can post that they can still do the $1099.99 deal, and I didn't see a problem with that. So I am posting to say that 6ave.com is still doing the deal and that you can Call Scott direct at x8632 who is aware of the deal.

LOL, No my name is David from Massachusetts and have no relations with 6ave. I was trying to help people here at Axiom as I am in the maket for speakers. I have atually been looking at the M60 V2. I have been wanting to buy Axiom since I left college. And not I have a chance to. If you buy it from Scott or even 6ave at all, doesn't bother me. If anybody else has better promos on the 3808 please post.

They are 100% new unopened boxes and since 6ave is an authorized denon dealer the manuf. warranty is valid.

I bought mine in november. It came double boxed. Original box was sealed and unopened and it was placed in a larger box filled with foam peanuts.
